Proposed legislation in New York could make the state in the nation the first to block gun makers from selling pistols if they don’t take measures to prevent them from being able to be converted to fire like machine guns.

The bill is set to be introduced Tuesday. It was drafted in response to the growing use of the attachments, called “pistol converters” or “Glock switches,” that are placed on popular semiautomatic pistols such as those made by Glock, said the bill’s sponsor, state Sen. Zellnor Myrie, a Democrat who represents a Brooklyn district.

The devices, about the size of a thumbnail, allow shooters to fire all the rounds in a magazine by just holding down the trigger, similar to a machine gun. The New York legislation highlights growing concern by police over the increased use of Glock switches in shootings—and killings—across the U.S.

“Glock’s handguns are uniquely susceptible to being easily converted into illegal machine guns, making them a weapon of choice for criminals seeking to spray hundreds of bullets and inflict maximum damage,” said Nick Suplina, senior vice president for Law and Policy at Everytown for Gun Safety. “This legislation is about putting Glock on notice.”

Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, a pro-Second Amendment group, said such legislative proposals show that many politicians don’t understand how guns operate. Many Glocks are already in civilian hands across the country, he said. If Glock did modify its gun to prohibit the switches, “I guarantee you there’s an engineer out there or a self-taught gunsmith out there who is going to work a way around it,” he said.

my thoughts:
I think many anti-gun laws pass because they don't affect current owners. It's a hidden knife, and those cause the most damage.

The highlighted text made me laugh. Sure someone could spend the $300+ on a 100 round Glock mag but anyone who has ever shot any machine pistol can tell you the only thing it inflicts maximum damage to is your wallet and wrists.

This is similar to Chicago's argument in its lawsuit. I don't see anything unique about Glock compared to other striker fired pistols, expect someone targeted Glock.

I shot a MP5 at the machine gun rental , it shot very accurate
Yes the MP5 is extremely accurate and controllable, as is the MP7, but I wasn't really talking about SMG's that had the buttstock removed like the MP5K but more of true machine pistols like the Glock 18 and Beretta 93R. Those are all but uncontrollable.

Like the thugs firing at each other are ever concerned about where their stray rounds wind up.

I never understood why these thugs don’t put there machine guns in a stock or brace. It’s already illegal, go all the way

Yeah I figured they would eventually go after guns that "could" and/or "could in theory" be converted to a machine gun.
Yes most gun laws pass because current gun owners think "it won't effect me" or "or it will only effect them other people"...

It's interesting that most of the devices are coming in from China and are being missed by our own customs people. Though a person has been arrested recently for
making them on his 3-D printer. And they are also being used in some A/R platforms. I noticed there is a definite control issue in using them. Minneapolis police say their
use is dwindling. U-tube video shows a pistol brace and forearm extension being used to hold the thing steady.

I want to see arrest record and sentences awarded to those criminals already arrested with those modified guns in their possession....

*crickets. Because they don't.
Don't hold your breath.

True, and that's part of why this could gain traction.

Agreed, but like was said earlier they are either they want to conceal it easier or they are too stupid to know that they could and it would make it "better".

Or they think it makes then look more like a "gangsta" from an old movie or music video, but wait I just repeated myself.
