There is an interesting article on MSN about firearm sales on Black Friday. Of course there are views that are completely skewed, but I found it very balanced for being on MSN. See what you think.

Americans spent some $52 billion on Black Friday weekend. In addition to sweaters and iPods, though, shoppers were scooping up something else in large numbers: guns.

According to the FBI, which processes requests for background checks of prospective gun buyers, 129,166 such checks were performed on Black Friday, Nov. 25, breaking the previous single-day record -- set on Black Friday 2008 -- by nearly a third. The surge in gun sales was initially reported by USA Today.

Rest of the story here.

Only a year 'till the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it in December 2012! Can't have too many guns or too much ammo!:neener::neener::neener:

Seriously -- less hand-wringing than most articles about increased gun sales, and the observation that it is becoming more socially acceptable to own guns is encouraging!

Check out the poll too.

Sure, guns make a great present

No. Isn’t Christmas supposed to be about peace?

"I think everybody wants a deal right now, so if they're getting a deal on a washing machine, why not get one on a gun," said Laws. According to laws, in Kentucky you can gift a firearm to someone as long as they are legal to own the gun."

I think that is the key in regarding these articles and most people do not realize this. Anti-gun people, middle of the fence people, and even some gun owners think it is illegal to give a gun to someone else no matter what the circumstance is.

Education, education, education.

Someone set me straight and tell me what is it about firearms that doesn't yell PEACE? They keep my family safe, and to me that's peaceful. They punch lots of holes in paper and that's surely pretty peaceful to me, especially after a long tiring day when I need to relax a bit.

Only 20% say Christmas is about peace. Hmmm. Just goes to show that you can rig a poll so you can get just about any desired result from the poll. We always need to read polls and don't just rely on a ten-second TV sound bite to tell us what poll results mean.

I think it's because they go "BANG".

People use the cliche term "peace AND quiet" so much I think those that don't look into it further come to think of them as one and the same.

If they were the same, wouldn't it be redundant to say, "peace AND quiet."

Poor poll choice for the alternative option. It combines the supposition that Christmas is about peace into the disagreement about whether guns are a good holiday gift. There is no way to disagree with the poll question asked without implicitly agreeing to their supposition.
