Gun dealers flooded the FBI with background check requests for prospective buyers last Friday, smashing the single-day, all-time high by 32%, according to bureau records. Deputy Assistant FBI Director Jerry Pender said the checks, required by federal law, surged to 129,166 during the day, far surpassing the previous high of 97,848 on Black Friday of 2008.

The number of Illinois residents who applied for firearm owner identification cards -- or FOID cards -- on Black Friday was an all-time high.

Major point: gun sales exceeded the after-election "panic" sales of 2008.

I couldn't wait, cleaned it up and then woke my wife up to give it to her, an early Christmas present.

Spent friday avoiding all retail establishments, Getting too old to take getting stomped, stabbed, Pepper sprayed, etc.

I was out of town on Black Friday but when I got back home I bought an AR kit from the Palmetto State Armory storefront. Those sales don't even contribute to the statistics since they don't involve a serialized receiver, and they're selling so fast that PSA is having trouble keeping them in stock. When I was in the store there were two people waiting for complete ARs that the guys in the back were assembling and test firing.

big news this info is everywhere. i was surprised black friday was that good considering the economy and all

I read the USA Today article on Friday and was quite surprised, although at the same time glad to hear that people are thinking about and purhcasing firearms.
Then I paused and thought about my own holiday purchases this year. (a few weeks back I hadn't even been considering purchasing a lot of new firearms for the holidays)
Lo and Behold, since last week: a 1911-A1 Loaded, a 3.8" .45acp, an AK47, a .380acp, 2 very nice O/U shotguns, a 12 and a 20 ga. and a B-92 Centennial .44mag lever gun.
I'm not braggin nor boastful, But it really hadn't dawned on me, until I read that article, just how many guns I'd bought this week. Guess things are just in the right place at the right time at the right price this year. Might aughta lock myself in the house till this shopping season gets over!!
