What is it that turns people on about Black Rifles? We know that those that hate them primarily fear them out of ignorance, transfix upon cosmetic things like bayonet lugs, pistol grips, flash hiders, telescoping stocks and their ability to accept high capacity magazines.

I personally enjoy the practicality of the design, it's reliability, and simplicity of maintenance in the field. And while not the most accurate of rifles, the effect range is more then sufficient for a fun day at the range, hunting small to medium game (prairie dogs to black bear) or home defense with the right ammo.

And while I prefer a more "Spartan" approach to accessorizing my rifles. I've got to admit, some are "Blinged" with accessories that even I have to give a second look at.

If you select "Other" in the poll please share with the rest of us what that other Black Rifle is. Thank you!

Zastava M92P soon to be converted to a SBR hopefully

This is what I'm hoping that the Zastava will somewhat look like when I'm done.

I like owning things that are slightly unusual and fun, hence my semi auto detachable magazine sporting rifle is an SA vz-58 semi auto clone.

Limited "bling", as some call it, most notably the TRS-25 red dot, which works surprisingly well.

If I could only have one? The PTR 91F that this year's tax return will be going to purchase. AK reliability with dirt cheap mags. If I could have 2? My Super Vepr 308 + the PTR91F. Very much looking forward to doing a shootoff between the 2. I'll be sure to post the results!

Whichever wins will determine my "trunk gun" get-me-home rifle. PTR 91GI or a Vepr II with synthetic furniture.

I refuse to vote in this poll, because the notion of having just one black rifle is silly.

If I could only have 1 M1A1 . but I can have more then one .. Still my favorite is the M1A1

I like the AR 15 platform and enjoy shooting it. So many modifications are available and easy to do. Parts are also easy to find.

Ar-15 is the most all around useful. Ok, not if you really have to kill an elephant. If elephant steak are on your menu than the equally useful M1a1. I would be happy with either one. The rest of the rifles listed are ok but too heavy and not ergonomic or accurate in comparison but all have merit.

I voted other because I have enough squirrel rifles so I sure do not need an AR 15 but an AR 10......

The only two I've constantly owned since the first one in 1971 is a Colt SP-1 Carbine I will go to my grave with.

And you left out the Ruger Mini-14 in your Poll!
I've kept one of those around since 1972 also.

Pretty difficult to pick just one. But I'd go with the AK in 5.45 flavor. I love me some retro ARs but I'm Russian by birth, I'm practically required to pick the AK :p

In as much as I can swap uppers in seconds and go from .22 LR up to 458 socom, it is pretty hard to beat an AR for just one. If I was restricted to just one upper in this hypothetical it likely would still be an AR I chose. I have a great love for AKs and wouldn't even want to have to own just one of those. The FAL is a classic and proven battle rifle. However, I'd take one of a couple ARs over any of them.

Obviously some of this question comes down to what one actually uses his or her rifle for. I do think it is telling that among those that can choose freely M4 type guns dominate by a very wide margin these days.

Who has just one?

Someone who bought one in CT before they were banned!
Luckily I was never really into the whole black rifle thing, but I do wish I had bought more before them getting banned.

My vote was for AR15 because of the modularity of the platform and the idea that with one "gun" you could have multiple setups and calibers. It's the best way to diversify if you can only have "one rifle."
