Gentlemen:
Re the various comments on this discussion, if I may make make so bold, I believe that you all are making a serious error. Unfortunately, that error involves your trying to deal with "media types" as responsible adults, who can be reasoned with, who listen to different opinions and try to understand different positions, as well as trying to understand why it is that reasonable people hold them.
Unfortunately, media types have their own agenda, you can get a good look at this by reading Bernard Goldberg's Arrogance, his latest book, he has written two, dealing with broadcasting. There is little difference between print and electronic "journalism" re their slanting and distorting of things, or with what amount to their temper tantrums. Have you ever tried to talk with a truly spoiled brat? There are truly miserable creatures, aren't they?
Re media's transgressions, look at the pile of crap they created via their "coverage" of so-called Cop Killer Bullets, which never killed a cop, Plastic Pistols, that supposedly pass through metal detectors unnoticed, they don't now, nor did they ever, and last but not least, the bo-ra-ha over and about Assault Weapons, another of medias "wet dreams", things that simply do not exist. Assault Rifles most certainly do, but try to get the average Talking Head to actually define Assault Rifle. Get the average reporter to do the same thing. They either cannot or will not, for the correct definition of the genre would blow their baloney "journalism" right out of the water.
It's exactly the same thing with their desire to publish the names and any other data they might wish, about Concealed Carry Permit or License Holders. They will do exactly what they want to do, and if their antics are checked, they will have another temper tantrum, all in the name of A Free Press. It's all a reminder of the Free Speech Movement at University of California, Berkley in the 1960's, as operated by the late Mario Savio. There was plenty of Free Speech for Mario, and his fellow travellers, though there wasn't much for anyone else.
Thanks for your time.
