Bolt rifle with Hi-Cap Mags?

As an Australian resident, when ever I hear of a 'high' capacity bolt/pump/lever action rifle my interest is always piqued...

Is there really a market for such a thing? I mean, if you want a rifle for combat, buy an AK, AR, Mini14, whatever. Bolt guns are about accuracy.

So, I'm thinking about a bolt rifle with a God aweful magazine sticking out of it right at the balance point. Not only am I not going to be able to rest it over a tree limb, fence post, whatever for a steady shot, but I can't carry the thing one handed easily because the magazine is at the balance point of the rifle. Add to that an appendage that's going to catch on brush, hang up climbing into tree stands and blinds, just generally get in the way and I think I'd pass. But, that's just me. However, I can't believe anyone could actually SELL such a thing.

Perhaps, you could buy a rifle with a removeable magazine, though, and have a high cap one for whatever purpose and a five round flush fitting mag for the real world. I had a Savage M340 once that had a five round removable box magazine. Only thing it'd take to make it a high cap rifle is a longer magazine. Of course, none were offered I'd think, never really thought to look, though.

Does conversions to Lee Enfields. Many of you will think this is heresy but they will take an Enfield and rebarrell it and modify the action to take WASR 10 round magazines. The guns are all chambered for 7.62x39. The web site shows everything from tanker conversions to some nice looking wood and synthetic stocked sporters. I asked about the cost of a conversion, 250$ for the basic parts kit, 100$ to have your gun converted, stock modifications and metal work from 60$ and up. Since .303B and the Russian 7.62s all generally run .311 rounds I am looking for an Enfield with a shot bore to add to my collection. That way I can handload for my Enfields and M38 with the same cast bullets. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Hmm. Just thinking out loud here, but a No.4 Enfield cut down to 18" would be a lot more reliable and indestructable than even the famed AK. It would be more powerful(in .303) and accurate as well. Plus it would have much better sights. An extra ten rounds on board wouldn't be a terrible thing, if it didn't compromise the weapon in any way.

The type of feed that has looks interesting since it feeds from the direct center. Does this seem to make a difference in reliability?

I have a Rem. 700 30/06 ADL that I installed a kwik klip on from cabelas. I switched to a BDL stock and you can buy a 10rd magazine for $30

As others have said, it'd be useful for changing types of ammo quickly. I think it might also be useful, outside of a military or police scenarios, for those shooting on a benchrest at the range.
If ordered on the hot line to stop firing, the box mag. bolt action shooter can simply remove the mag and open the bolt to show the weapon is empty. When ready to start shooting again, you can just rock the mag back in and resume shooting rather than manually feeding 5 rounds into the internal mag.
Just my ramblings. :)

Sabre Defence (limey spellin') are the ones working on importing the No.4 Mk.4s after Tristar dropped the ball.

As soon as the red tape clears, I'm buying a pair in .308/7.62 NATO. Why? Because I can. :D

Timeframe? <please, pretty please soon...>

I dunno...my emails to them are answered with the industry standard "in a couple months." :scrutiny:

They'll be the first booth I run for when SHOT opens in February. If anyone sees them at a show before then, please let us know.

Best,
John Bear Ross
