a few weeks ago I picked up a nice S&W 629 3 inch. Gun came with nice rubber grips
I decided it needed the short wood boot grip from Midway and they look sweet. However the recoil is HORRENDOUS . But I knew that going into the .44 mag game. anyway grips are a perfect fit no trimming and no gaps. If you don’t mind the recoil they sure are purrrrrdy

No pictures, no grips, lol!

I have a 629 with the same barrel. Cannot imagine shooting it without rubber grips...... Maybe a softer reload.... But critical Defense full loads...... No Sir. Not for me. Love the gun though. It feels so solid......

That’s my all-too-familiar trade-off when switching from synthetic grips to wooden ones... especially on my hard-kickers.

Wooden grips look fantastic, I’ve never seen a synthetic rubber grip that can hold a candle to them. I’ve even taken to buying a couple of sets of custom wood inserts for my Ruger DA revolvers because they dress up the rubber SP/GP style grips so much.

But, unless they’re custom fit to my hands they often beat the bejezus out of my palms. The fat-butt “target” grips like the older S&W and Dan Wesson grips are pretty bad, the “splinter” grips like the stock ones on J frames or my Model 13 are downright miserable with heavy loads. (All of my smaller revolvers wear synthetic grips like Pachmayr compacs or the Hogue versions.)

Post a picture of your .44, we’d love to see how the boot grips look on it.

Stay safe.

Test Drive, with the absence of pics, how can I believe you?

That aside, every revolver I actually shoot wears butt-ooglie Hogues or Pachmayrs, depending on which is cheaper.

The lookers wear wood. I look at them occasionally.
