Well, I managed to get blocked from Facebook for a day!

I was getting messages from some GCA's and decided to post some facts on their own page. I even put up a couple pics of my kids shooting and my daughter's essay (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=696101) for them to counter, or try to. Nothing insulting mind you as that is not my way. Well, I guess I offended someone enough that they reported a post of mine. I can't get to it again, but it was reply to someone who posted that gun companies were dancing on the graves of the Newtown victims. I replied that it was the GCA groups that were by using the tragedy to push their agenda. I guess that was a violation.

Of course through the course of these exchanges I had my kids threatened- to which I asked how they were going to carry out those threats? With a spoon? I was flat out told that the facts didn't matter because they weren't relevant. Finally, I guess I got something right because next weekend I am taking a lady out shooting with my kids who unliked a GCA page she had been in favor of. I'll give up a day of hunting for that.

The photos I posted for them:

Most social media like FB is anti (legal) gun. They don't want facts, because they know they are wrong, and only deal with lies, and emotion.

I apologize for my ignorance but what is GCA? Count me in as a non Facebook user too lol.

Don't feel bad. I keep getting de- friended because I post lots of inconvenient facts about the ACA as well as gun control. I have discovered that folks who have their head up their a.. tend to become accustomed to the position.

A couple of fun facts about facebook (as related to me by a friend).

When he wanted to close his account, the automated function stated it would take 14 days to close the account. He wanted all the material related to his closed page permentely deleted from their servers. No, sorry (not really sorry) it's now the property of Facebook and is retained in perpetuity, somewhere in cyberspace.

They should have to advise people prior to sign up that any submitted material is now their property, or have an option for complete deleation.

I have never had fart-book...um...I mean facebook and never will.

Put something up on a site and it's their's not yours. Facebook is no different. They're just avoiding having to perform the work caused by the endless number of people that regret what they've posted and then regret it was removed and want it back.

gdcpony,

Provide a link to your FB page and you might get some more "likes".

hso,

Everything you state is quite right.

But they should have to disclose the information that they now "own" the material.

Or, have an option where the poster puts up a non-refundable fee, say, $100.00. Then, if the person leaves (on their own) Facebook, the cost of scrubbing the account is covered.

The offer should be made to all new posters and offered to current posters.

Just IMHO and I'm just sayn'

I guess when one lives downwind of a dairy they become accustomed to the smell of feces. This is especially true when one suffers from cranial rectal disorder.

Facebook is very clear about their use (and ownership) of users posts, pics, etc in their user agreement.

If you didn't read it before you clicked AGREE, or don't read the regular updates, it's hard to claim FB is doing something dishonest.

I frequently consider deleting my profile, but the value outweighs the hassle.

I don't care that they "own" it. I don't post/like/comment on anything where I don't want it public. THR could use those photos, I would be fine with that. Same with FB. I just do not like the fact that they take sides. I guess in the end they are a private entity (as odd as it seems they are not owned by the users) so they can be biased.

I use it because I keep in touch with people through it, keep those pics I want publicly accessible (like the ones I used here), and it does work on occasion to get my friends and such behind an issue.

Isn't it "funny" how they can spurt and spew forth any form of lie and falsity that they desire but once someone brings forth truth they have an absolute fit and cry "foul" and look for some action to be done against you. They live by the motto "its my right to use it how I want, disagree with me and I'll have yours taken away."

Major kudos to you sir! Cool pictures too.

I'm in the same situation. I use FB so often as a tool for activism that I can hardly justify deleting my profile. I think everyone should have an FB for the purpose of activism and education. Just don't post any pertinent info.

Truth. However, all I can do is send FB a message voicing my discontent. After I am done with my current course for my military job (I hate IT, but my MOS is moving there), I may do just that. Then it will likely get ignored or a coined cheesy response given to me.

Your last is also true. If we don't use every tool we can, we will fall to those who do.

Edit: I have been getting friends requests on FB. If you are sending one please include a message with your username here if you don't mind so I know the source. At least let me know you are from THR. I approved a couple a little while ago from people I thought I knew from forums and they turned out to be anti-hunters. Thanks. I will do the same for you.

To be honest, I would be careful about posting photos of your kids with firearms. There's nothing wrong with children shooting (I teach them all of the time), but someone on Facebook can report it to state's children's services and then you'll have a legal fight on your hands to get the kids back. Sounds utterly insane, I know, but this has happened before. Not even once, but a few times.

They are properly supervised, and aside from a missing pair of glasses (sorry), shooting safely. They can gripe all they want, but I love getting kids shooting and a picture of a child shooting safely does allot for images of gun owners. More than the likelihood of harm or trouble.

Besides I have such cute kids! lol

I wouldn't worry about it.

I joined about a month ago.
It just seems like a waste of time.

I wonder why they don't ban me, since this is my picture?

GDC, don't get me wrong -- you're doing NOTHING wrong. Totally cool with kids shooting. Unfortunately, the child protective services doesn't work that way. The chain goes like this: 1) some GCA/anti (whom you don't know) sees your photos online, 2) the GCA/anti calls child protective services and says, "There's a guy who's letting his kids play with guns.", 3) state agency comes to your house and takes your kids away until you can prove that they were never in harm's way. With child protective services, it's always guilty until proven innocent.

Our society is so divided on gun related beliefs that it is highly unlikely that a pro-gun comment on Facebook or anywhere else for that matter will be even read let alone considered by the anti-gun crowd. Similarly, how many of us on this or other pro-gun forums would read a column in a newspaper or online with a title like "Private ownership of firearms should be banned", or would we just shake our heads at the title and move on?

Recently I have tried, despite my comment above, to post some rational facts about the futility of "gun free zones" on Facebook. These were in response to comments by friends-of-friends stating how much safer they felt that such-and-such business had posted a no-guns sign. I was chastised and called some pretty nasty names. When I then inquired what their answer or response was to the information I wrote, I had at least some anti-gun folks be honest enough to tell me that they would not even read my comment since they know they are right on this issue.

A few years a colleague of mine at work who had never fired a gun asked me some gun questions, knowing that I am very pro-gun and pro-2nd Amendment. After a few visits to a range, this person and her husband are now avid gun supporters and gun owners. Because of this experience I keep trying to reason with the opposition, but I do understand that it is an uphill battle at best.
