Hey guys - I've got an old Savage 340 I'm looking to restock. I picked it up a couple years ago for $100 and it shoots fine but the stock has seen better days (not to mention even when new the stocks on these guns are pretty ugly).
Anyways, I was deciding between Boyds and Richards Microfit. I've got a Richards on another gun - love that stock, and they're the cheaper option, but the wait time is long and I know those do take a bit of work to fit.
Has anyone put a Boyds stock on one of these rifles? If so how much work was there fitting the action to the stock? Also, I thought I'd read that the "notch" in the trigger guard isn't relieved on the Boyds stock for this gun. Is this true? Just wondering as if so I'll probably pay the extra and get it unfinished. I don't want to have to sand in a notch and then try to match the original finish.
Thanks for any info offered!
