WASHINGTON -- A gun-control group has agreed to pay a $26,000 fine for failing to properly disclose spending on mailings opposing two Republican House candidates, the Federal Election Commission said Thursday.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Voter Education Fund didn't report $111,777 in spending to oppose Kentucky Rep. Ernest Fletcher's election, nor did it report $99,731 in spending against Pennsylvania Rep. Pat Toomey, according to the FEC.

The mailings were sent to voters shortly before the 2000 election. The spending was supposed to be reported by the Brady group's Voter Education Fund to the commission within 24 hours.

The group paid the civil fine last month.

The Brady Campaign is named after Jim Brady, former press secretary to President Reagan. Brady was seriously wounded during a 1981 attempt on Reagan's life.

Well, I don't know about Toomey, but they didn't do a darn bit of good against Ernie Fletcher. On Tuesday, he will become our state's first GOP governor in 32 years. This makes me think of the way Daschle tried saying that they lost last year's Congressional elections because they just didn't get their message out there. When are they going to realize that Americans heard their message and gave their answer? No skin off my back. The more money they waste getting their message out, the more people realize just how dangerous they are.

Toomey is still alive and well, PA Congressman, he is running next year to unseat Spectre as a Senator. Toomey is a member of Ron Pauls' Liberty Commitee, real good guy.

Nice to see Brady wasted money trying to un-seat him, and fined to boot!

What?
Do you mean to tell me that after all this time we're finding out that they dont play fair or by the rules? Surely that upstanding organization does things the "right" way, right?

sheesh...:cuss:
