"That's something great to hear. If they don't get funding, they won't even have enough money to stay running. I hope that they do shut down."
They get their funding from the big liberally driven Foundations in the form of 6 and 7 figure checks. The Joyce Foundation, based in Chicago, is their single biggest supporter.
They are strictly a top down run, and funded, organization. Their grass roots level support is long gone. Until the Joyce board finds a new rat hole to pound money down, they will remain functional.
They do have cutbacks however. The entire Million Mom March is now one part-time person with a fax machine and an e-mail address. They had to very quietly lay off about 4 people from their PR group last year and they have looked into outsourcing their entire communications operations to reduce staff even further.
