Why do non gun people take the Brady Campaign seriously?

Anti gunners call the NRA an extremist organization, where is the backlash against these Brady nutcases?

That Brady pdf thing made my head explode. So many inaccuracies and sensationalist statements. Sad part is that most anti-guns gobble up everything they say without checking or thinking about it themselves.

Oh and that political cartoon on page 7 was the only cartoon I have ever complained to the editor about. It wasn't funny, was in bad taste, and ran the day after the VTech shootings.

I'm guessing they have no sense of humour, and take everything seriously.

Okay, this might not make much sense, since it's 2:40 in the morning here, but here's my take on that:

I think that the attacks on the NRA and the simultaneous overlooking of the BC's unsavoury tactics, is similar to what happened over here in 1996/7.

After any of the shootings in our countries, the antis are usually the first to offer fake words of sympathy, and advice to blame innocent gun owners. You can see this in almost every tragedy the BC and their ilk use to justify stuff like the AWB or a .50 ban (read: the unjustifiable).

To the people the Bradys have hoodwinked with their charm, the effects of gun owners are clear: Columbine, VA Tech, and the UK Dunblane shootings. Now, each of these and similar tragedies could be prevented (in the case of Dunblane, it was claimed that it could have been stopped several years beforehand), but the end result is always the same.

Despite all of the things the antis have done (the GCN members at a conference assaulting Mike Yardley, for example), there is almost no press reports of such things (in the aforementioned example, a BBC reporter asked Yardley, who was invited to speak there, why he tried to "hijack" the conference, IIRC).

Since the NRA usually demands that the innocent be left alone, the anti-gun groups and sympathetic reporters unscrupulously make it sound like "The NRA only cares about people being able to commit more of these murders!", thus giving the media an excuse to look at the NRA. With the NRA in the spotlight, they can lie, spin and get away with it all.

That's one thing you can say about the Brady Campaign. They're foolish, bigoted, ignorant, unscrupulous, two-faced, cowardly liars (not to mention several other names that, while more accurate, are not High Road), they do know what they're doing.

This battle — to its very core — is the most important battle we have ever waged. We need your help today to save America's gun laws by building a strong SECOND AMENDMENT Defense Fund.
Your tax-deductible gift of $25 or more today is critical to our success!
We must prepare for a long hard battle. So much of what we have worked for in the past and everything we're currently working on could be destroyed by the heinous decisions of LEFT-WING GUN-GRABBERS who chose to ignore more than 200 years of Constitutional Law in order to keep the gun lobby from accomplishing in the courts what it has been unable to accomplish in Congress.
DONATE TO YOUR LOCAL NRA CHAPTER TODAY!
I fixed it for them.

"and ran [the cartoon on page 7] the day after the VTech shootings."
Those people are mentally ill, thats all there is to it.

I don't find the second picture funny in the slightest. Anyone who would mock the Second Amendment while politicizing those school shootings to further their own agenda obviously has no respect for the Constitution or the victims and their families. If the First Amendment were treated anything like the Second Amendment, this moron would be hung.

Please click here to make a tax-deductible commitment of $25 or more. Your gift today will help us prepare for the incredibly large amount of work that needs to be conducted to hold off this assault on our nation's gun laws.

That's rich. A donation to shred the constitution is now tax-deductible.

I'm kind of suprised there are no lines of coke, cannabis posters or bongs in the first picture.

I always find it funny how the Brady Bunch asks for donations, saying that it will go to the benefit of others and society at large.

Their site is a .com one! In other words, a commercial business intended for the profit of its owners.

60 years of precendent is a lot? I think she forgets that the 2nd amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791. So I raise her 60 years an additional 156 years in our favor.

IMO, people are catching on to the Bradys' BS. They only have two antis posting on their blog, these days. Machine Gun Kelli, and someone who calls himself Macca. It's almost sad, in a really funny sort of way.

Just as an update, the BC no longer allow comments on their blog.

This came following a series of 3 threads where they questioned the pro-gun side's ability to engage in "reasoned discourse." To support these thread they cited 2 comments caught in a moderation queue (captured posts that never made actually it to the blog comments section) and an office fax they received. And, 2 of the 3 people that wrote these posts/fax haven't posted any other comments on the blog.

Ironically, the BC over looked hundreds of posts freely available by repeat posters in their archives where we responded to them with cited facts and logic. They also completely ignored the numerous ad hominem attacks made by Kelli (such as calling me a creep and questioning my academic honesty).

Basically, We see all this as an admission of their defeat (much like a whiny little fat kid that "takes his ball and goes home" when things aren't going his way).

Folks, one thing to keep in mind is that while Robert Levy has been generous enough to decline all offers of funding and has paid the tab on the legal bills, there is about to be the mother of all propaganda wars leading up to the decision.

The antis will be fighting hard to convince the Court that the average American is scared of firearms and welcomes their over-regulation. <insert your pro-gun group of choice here> will be fighting against those lies in a media environment that isn't very friendly to them. Please set aside some cash to your favorite pro-gun group to help them fight this battle. This litigation won't win the war; but it could be a Stalingrad-El Alamein-Dday type of battle that will mark the turning point in the war. Let's make sure our guys have the resources they need to hit the beach.
