I cleaned a polymer handgun yesterday with brake cleaner. It was pretty dirty and I have used it on other guns. As it dried the dark black dried gray. I figure it removed the oil. I guess in theory I need to add oil back what should I soak a polymer frame in to rejuvinate?

Brake cleaner and plastic not good. I dont know of a way to fix it. Maybe someone will come along and give some advice.

Thats the problem with polymer frames, you should never use anything stronger than rubbing alcohol on them, preferably simple soap and water is best and dry off with a hair . dryer. Silicon lubes are best on things like mag releases etc.

Brake cleaner is almost as bad as paint remover or laquer thinner on plastics , it will often melt it.

Was it non-clorinated? I've used that for a long time on my polymers. No issue. It works the same as the polymer safe gun scrubbers.

I have used non-chlorinated brake cleaner on Glocks for years with no problems. I hose them out with brake cleaner after scrubbing with Hoppes, blow out any residue with compressed air, and lube as directed.

This is accepted practice.

The unknowns here are:

1. What polymer gun are you working on?

2. What brake cleaner are you using?
