I want to Duracoat a couple of my guns and understand that 000 brass wool is a need, but no store around here (Southern Maine) has even heard of it!
I see it on Kohl's site and supposedly can order it online, but when I called the local store, they had no freaking idea what I was talking about (plus it was like $12 for a bag of 3 or 4 pads or whatever you call them.
I'm pretty sure I only need 1 to do what I need to do, and I already have enough "stuff" hanging around my storage space that "I may need again someday"
Could I get away with just using something like a BBQ brass scrubber, or do I need to suck it up, and pay the tab?
These are already just HD weapons, anyway, just looking for better rust prevention and possibly better looks

Forget it.

Brass wool leaves brass tracks on the surface of the metal..

Use 0000 Super-Fine Steel Wool from any hardware store instead.

Wash the oil out of it with alcohol, mineral spirits, etc, before using it for paint prep.

BTH: Used with oil or solvent, there is nothing better for removing light rust from bluing.

If you just have your heart set on bronze wool, Brownells sells it.

Go to a janitorial supply store or outlet. They carry all kinds of cleaning materials.

Ask for bronze wool.

RC I haven't looked back, but I would swear that you were one of those who specified brass wool?
You certainly seem to know your stuff when it comes to firearms, so I'll use 0000 steel wool.
Thanks for clearing this up- makes things much easier

No, I have never recommended brass wool in my life.

It brings more problems to the table then you need.

Such as how to remove brass rub off on the otherwise clean surface.
(Copper Solvent Bore Cleaner, if you must know.)

Thanks RC
Maybe I saw brass wool for use in cleaning lead and whatnot from bores an got confusticated?
Working 6 days a week pays most of the bills, but does get old!

I have suggested using Copper Choir Boy pot cleaning pads for removing leading from bores.

That's probably were you got corn fused.
