I haven't fired my new S&W M&P 15 PC yet.

From my internet research I conclude that chrome lined barrels need no complicated break in procedure. Just shoot at the range and clean when you get back to the house.

What about my AR? It has a 20 inch stainless varmint barrel on it? Do I need to do the 1 shot/clean; 2 shot/clean; etc?

And, why do some insist that you run the cleaning brush from breech to muzzle, then remove the brush to avoid going from muzzle to breech?

Seriously, I have never done that, and some of my guns are 30 years old.

No. Clean before you go to the range, clean it when you get home from the range.

So you don't push all the crap into the action. That's why people us bore snakes.

Going in one direction also helps save the crown from dings or excessive wear. Seeing lots of good reports on the new foaming bore cleaners - I'm going to use those when I start shooting rifles again.

I use the repeated cleaning after firing method, but there are several ways to break in a barrel.
