Maybe this is commonly known here, and if so I apologize for posting this again.

However, a Brit friend of mine that returned to the UK recently bought this
20" barrel AR, and it has a 4x ACOG on it as you can see. Nothing unusual there, right?

Except all centerfire semi-auto rifles are prohibited to UK citizens. So, the handle on the left side is used to charge the rifle after every shot. The AR is, basically, a high magazine capacity, straight pull bolt action. This is how all AR's in the UK are.

Also, ACOG's are very hard to get there since we have rules about weapons exports, and the ACOG falls under that.

Thanks for posting pics!

On the flip side, the UK allows and encourages use of sound suppressors, which I understand are available at low cost ($50 equivalent?) and no additional regulation once you legally own the rifle. They aren't the only ones with oppressive gun laws!

I hope he realizes that the gun is on that rest backwards? He probably does, but that's just begging for some dumb kid to comment on as "proof" of how little Brits know about guns.

He no doubt knows how to use the bench, it just sits better that way for the pic. He's an experienced shooter with rifles, pistols and shotguns.

Interestingly, Singapore (with it's draconian laws) allows ownership of centerfire pistols, though they must be kept locked up at the clubhouse at the range. So, he had to sell his M1911A1 that he owned here in SG before moving back to the UK.

Hmmm... Makes me happy to know i live in such a Free State! (Arizona) And country for a matter of Fact! :)

I couldn't stand such regulations and laws! But on the flip side. I have never seen a left sided bolt action AR! Very neat!

$50 Dollar suppressors?? Man... I guess that's one advantage the UK has over us.

Do not know about the tips of knives but I understand they have outlawed swords. Maybe they play cricket because bats are outlawed too.

A little OT, but on a related note, I too thought it was a joke, and whilst legislation has apparently not passed the law, they are actually pushing for making common Knives Blunted. A silly thought, and example of when a governing body has far too great of power over its people.
Thomas Jefferson said:
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

:)

wow lol the leadership of the UK has clearly lost it

on the gun note...i would rather have one of those panther arms pump action ARs than a straight pull bolt action

I wonder if they are allowed to use pump action rifles, you would think that is acceptable.

Only allowed pump and semi in rimfire!!!

For the Brits: as I understand it, you need to show the police that you have a "good reason" to buy a centerfire rifle.

What constitutes a "good reason"?

from what I have heard, being part of a competitive shooting community and/or club (and proving so) can get you one.

I found a youtube video relating to these "british specials".

Ruger Mini 14 at 300 and 600yds (with irons)

and

AR-15 M4 shoot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-NzZvZr0wc&feature=channel

apparently this guy's mini is a real tack driver. either that, or the guy is a good shooter.

oh and on a side note, I bought a set of knifes at a thrift store and wondered why all the tips were busted off of them and I wondered why. perhaps they came from britian.
(they cut great if your wondering)

The british have outlawed swords? Now thats just funny right there I don't care who you are!!:D

Next comes the ban on pointy sticks, a great initiative will hire thousands of low-wage workers, to cap every twig with a cork.

Wrought iron fences shall also be capped with Teletubbies dolls.

Seriously, a London transplant friend here, the first 2 things he did was buy a gun, and the widest cadillac he could buy, just to commute.

I think the Aussies have the same problem as you Poms. They have even had trouble with straight pull SL-8s and Steyrs as it was claimed they could be converted to semi.

From what I understand, they even outlawed being an ethnic Brit. If you go to London, you will understand.

Glass pints have been deemed too dangerous. There have been proposals to require plastic in the pubs. How did humans survive for so long without the protection of government?

Okay guys, as funny as it is (and it is funny), lets try to keep it on track, on topic, and high road. I don't think the O.P.'s intentions were to poke fun at the expense of the poor serfs on the other side of the pond, these folks are at least tying to preserve what little freedom they have, lets try to respect that.

:)
