I know. I'm molesting a piece of history. I'm destroying the value, you wouldn't do it if it were yours. Now that that is out of the way; I came into possession of a very nice 1939 BRNO Small ring Mauser full stock in 7 X 57. Its either a lightweight sporter or a pre 21F or it IS a 21F. The serial number is well under 1200. Very light weight nice rifle. Trouble is, a small number of these pre war ones were made and apparently some had claw mounts some had none. Mine had none. My 70 year old eyes can't pick up the iron sights and of course it isn't drilled and tapped for a late model scope. That came on later 1946 and later models in the form of double square bridges. I need to find a really competent smith who can give me the options and the choices to mount a scope on it. I've talked with Champlin and New England, CZ, Ford and Turnbull. Who else is out there. I realize it will cost, but I reeally love this old rifle, kind of a grail gun for me and I want to be able to use it, then pass it on to my Grandson who was with me when I got it this past weekend. Leaning toward Claw Mount but am open to other ideas.
