The police are still at his house and this information is just preliminary. I'm sure we'll get the whole story soon. (this takes place in Phoenix Arizona)

I guess he was going to get in his truck and a guy walked up stuck a gun to his head and told him to give him everything he had. Zac gave him his wallet and I guess when the guy saw nothing in there, no money, no credit cards he forced Zac back inside his condo and Zac kept telling him that he doesn’t have anything and I guess when they got inside he forced Zac on the ground and picked up the TV, PS, and Zac’s gun and even told Zac “Yeah, I did pick the wrong guy to rob”. The best part is that as he was doing this the robber had left his car running outside and someone came and stole the robbers car. Well, this made the robber run outside at which point Zac got up and took off in the opposite direction as fast as he could run so he’s safe.

Obviously from the story my brother-in-law owns a gun ( i guess its owned now). He doesn't have his CCW although he works for an airline so he couldn't carry most of the time anyways.

My BIL is pretty much a sheeple but I thought I'd share the experience for some analysis here.

Doesn't sound like the best neighborhood.
2 felonies independent of each other, within minutes, and in the same parking lot.

This would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Situational awareness is good and all, but it sounds like it's time for your brother-in-law to move.

I agree, sounds like a change of address would be an excellent idea!

Bad things happen to good people, no matter how you prepare. Even the best awareness skills aren't going to catch everything. If the crook was stealthy enough to get a gun to his head, then there's not much you can really do from there.

Totally sucks. We like to think there will always be options, be all of us, eventually, will have a lapse in awareness. If that happens to occur at the same time you're being targetted for a crime, well, at least heaven is a nice place. Unless you're an athiest, then you go to hell. :neener:

If Zac had hidden his gun better, he would still have one. :uhoh:

If he had a second gun, the robber wouldn't have escaped with the first.

Robber exits, sees no car. Sees Zac in doorway racking slide on Winchester '97. Zac picks up stuff from lawn as Robber does jackrabbit impersonation...

What did the robber actually get away with? Seems like it would be tough to steal a TV with no car. Actually, seems like he would have taken your brother-in-law's car at that point.
