When did they start adding the $3 charge for shipping protection? It’s optional but it didn’t exist before. And this “protection” isn’t included with their annual Edge membership ($49). I assume they add on sales tax to the charge as well.

A few months ago at least. From what I've read it's insurance in case it gets stolen after delivery.

Ar15com had a good thread about it a while back with comments from Brownells.

I ordered some Barricade spray yesterday. The $3 charge was automatically added. However at checkout you can delete the insurance. I was using Edge at checkout.

I would pay the $3 charge if it insures my package is sent without a requirement for a signature. If that is what Brownell's is doing that then good for them.
