Hey all, new to the forum! Good to be here!

I'm looking to see if y'all would have any idea what a Browning Model 81 BLR in .257 Bob would be worth? Manufactured in 1987 and in 99% condition. Paired with a mint Leupold Vari-X IIc. Contemplating trading my M&P-15 Sport II for it.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply BLRguy. So you think he would be getting the better end of the deal? I had some other trade offers that were worth more, but the cool factor of having a discontinued, classic rifle was worth the little bit of a loss.

If you're looking for a sweet hunting rifle it seems like a good time to trade

I'm partial to l/a rifles and .257Roberts.
I've got a BLR-81 Steel reciever.358. With a Leupold scope, more like $850.
Check Gunbroker and see what the " sell now" listings are running.

I'd jump on it for $650.
Btw, mine wears exact. Same scope.

Yep, you're definitely more on target with the $850. Gunbroker has a lot of BLR's for sale in that range, but none in .257. I think I like that fact. They're either rare, or the people that own them, like them, and aren't getting rid of them. I think I'm going to jump on it and go with the straight trade. Thanks Goose

The rifles are uncommon in that very desirable caliber, so I'm thinking the higher numbers are more appropriate. The scope does not compare favorably with the Leupold's made today. It has low grade magnesium fluoride lens coating and only 82% light transmission, inferior to the current production VX-1, so you may want to consider upgrading that if you hunt with it.

Around these parts, in the condition you describe, and chambered in .257 Roberts; I wouldn't be at all surprised if you got close to a grand with the Browning/Leupold. I'd make the trade in a heartbeat if that's what you want

The last one I saw for sale was a 1983 BLR .257 Roberts for $900 dollars. These are some what rare and very desirable hunting rifles.:)

You can always get another M&P AR if you get to missing it. It might be a long time till you see another BLR in .257 Roberts.

Looking forward to seeing pictures and a range report. My BLR is a sentimental favorite.

My thoughts exactly. I already have a built AR, so I figured I'd see what I could manage to trade for my M&P.

And of course, in true online gun trade fashion, I haven't heard back from the guy today. Will keep you guys updated though.
