I am seeking answers from Browning BLR owners about a recent purchase; I acquired a previously owned NIB (not fired by owner) Browning BLR Lightweight pistol grip in .308 Winchester...

1) what kind of accuracy can I expect at 100 & 200 yards with a good quality 3 - 9 x 40 scope mounted ?

2) what is the largest game animal that can be humanely taken w/ .308 ? which load for larger game ? what is the maximun range for taking larger game ?

3) I wish to use detachable scope rings to utilize the open sights occasionally...which scope base sits low enough and won't block the sights?

4) the sights look canted when using the receiver top as a point of reference...is there such a thing as a Browning with an overtorqued barrel? should I send the rifle back?

5) what can be done to smooth and lighten the trigger?

thank you

I recently got a new to me 308 blr, light weight. I love the gun, and while I have not shot a lot of 308, I have shot plenty of 30-06 (which is very close in its ballistics).
1. I haven't put a lot of rounds down range yet, but in a couple of range sessions I have been averaging about 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 100 yards. Not quite what I got from my old bolt rifles, but very good for a shorter barrelled quick handling rifle. (3 x 9 x 40 scope)

2. there is really not much in the lower 48 that cannot be taken with the 308. (Moose and Griz being the 2 that one would need to be most careful with). With a 30-06 I have taken large (for the south 180lb+) whitetail at better than 300 yards, large Russian type hogs 300lb + at 200+ yards, and know plenty of folks who have taken elk and several who have taken big black bear, and one guy who took a couple of moose with the 30-06.

3. Not sure, as I am using see through mounts that came on it, and I do like the set up pretty well.

4. don't know
5. don't know
