Browning Hi-power Capitan

I just put one of these beauties on layaway and wanted to gain any info concerning this model. It was NIB, Made in Belgium assembly/Portugal w/ a serial # starting at 511##? with a beautiful blue finish and walnut grips. I paid $775.00 which seems kind of high, but I have never seen this model in the local gun shops and loved the way it felt in hand. Is it just me or are these Hi-powers getting more expensive by the week? Are the tangent sights usable and to what distances? Thanks for any feedback and I am looking forward to joining the ranks of proud hi-power owners.

Stevens' book on the BHP is excellent. Steven Camp has a BHP site, www.handgunsandhighpowers.com as I recall.

I have a tangent sighted Inglis. Tangent sights are very high on the coolness factor but expecting the 9mm cartridge to suddenly become a sniper weapon is a bit much. Even when FN was making them in the pre WWII days they were selling the customers what they wanted, not what necessarily made sense. (Sort of like a lot of things today.) At that time, the Chinese--warlords, Nationalists, etc.--were very taken with the notion of the BHP as a collapsable carbine and status symbol.

I like mine and have shot it out to 200 yards, but even with the new barrel it was pretty underwhelming.

At normal pistol ranges it performs very nicely.
