Building an AR9

My 10.5" faxon barrel shot 3" at 100 yards with my 124gr match load that I load for my 1911. I just bought a 2nd to build a dedicated suppressed upper but haven't tested it for accuracy yet.

Well I think my son just vetoed the AR9 project. He’s leaning toward a pistol now so I’ll have to go hang out in another forum for a bit.

I built a CMMG banshee as well but I could never get it to work reliably. Always had failures to eject. I finally had enough of it and bought back the first AR9 I had before that, from the person I sold it to. I got a Scheel Manufacturing roller delayed buffer to try with that.

Cmmg had some issues with their ejector springs for a while. As fast as I can tell, they have sorted them out.

That's what they told me also. They sent me replacements twice and I tried some aftermarket ones also. They would all work for a little while and then start failing to eject after a couple magazines. I even took some slow motion video of it. I spent a lot of time analyzing the pathway and timing of how a 9mm case has to eject and release from the extractor compared to a 223 case and the problem became apparent that the ejector has ran out of travel before the case clears the ejection port, so if the timing isn't just right the case doesn't make it out the side. The spring loaded ejector works great for a 223 case because its a lot longer so it gets a lot of angular momentum going in the short stroke of the ejector, but its my opinion that a short 9mm case is better suited to a fixed ejector like pretty much all handguns use. I loved it when it worked and have seen great reviews from others but I lost all trust and confidence in it.

About the only advantage I see of an AR9 is ability to use AR triggers.

Much prefer the classic MP5 for sub-gun, PCC or whatever we're calling it today.

That being said, a Colt R6450 or SMG would be the only AR9 of interest, personally.
