All,

I have been looking for a new toy, the Walther P99 does not really do it for me and the SIG p220 is just not 100% comfortable in my hand.

I was looking at another 1911 when I saw a used Bul M5 double stack 1911, polymer frame.

Great trigger pull, very good condition and only $350.

I understand it is almost the same as the Kimber Pro Ten II poly 1911, frame and parts, maybe a slight difference in the grip safety.

What can you all tell me about them. Could I find an ambi safety lever for it and have a smith put it on for me?

I liked the feel of it over the brand new Kimber Pro Ten in the store for $550. Trigger was nicer and it seemed slightly thinner in slide area.

I would jump on that bad boy at that price !! I had one of the 1st gen ones (hooked trigger guard), and it was a superb shooter. The uppers were manufactured for Bul by kimber, in exchange for Kimber using the Bul lowers for their old Polymer Custom models. My Bul upper ,( now on a kimber stainless frame -long story), still locks up tight after at least 12K through it. Later model Buls had the rounded trigger guard, none of them as far as I know have series 2 style firing pin blocks, and the grip safety is metal whereas the Kimber hi caps use plastic.

A BUL M5 Govt model costs >$900 over here NIB. :what:

Fact is, I was choosing between that and a custom Peters Stahl hi-cap as my first 1911. Went home with the PS, but I would have been just as happy with the BUL.

I was wanting a Kimber Ultra Ten II pretty bad in the past. Seen the Bul M5 and wanted that even more. Charles Daly is suppose to be importing them but jacked up the price after they put their name on them.

You can use P 14 hi cap mags in the BUL/Kimber by going to rescomp.com and getting a different mag release. Costs a few buck but you wont have to use the Kimber hi cap mags. Para 14 mags are alot cheaper.

You can also just file the catch on the para mag to fit the bul m5. This way you can use the modded mags and the factory mags. I had good luch with mec-gar p14 mags filed in my kimber.

OTOH, the double stack never seemed to fit my hand right, a bit too sqaure on the edges, so it's gone now.

I have the Kimber version with the Bul frame. For that price I would jump on it. Excellent gun.
