Hi All,
Getting low on powder and primers (Win SPP & 231).
Who would you suggest for 8#’s of powder and 5000 primers? I’ve looked at PV, prices look OK but wondering if I can shave a few $ somewhere else.. Thanks for any suggestions, best regards.

You will have a HAZMAT FEE ($30) added to the order + S&H. So try to max out your order as much as possible to lower the cost/item. I normally order 20k primers with every powder order as a min. If you can swing it or find some one near you where you can combine orders into one. This is the down side when if comes to powder and primers.

I ran into a guy at the gunshow near me that almost matched my internet prices. So I just now pick up it locally anytime I get low.

I think it's pretty hard to beat Powder Valley.

They drop ship powder & primers for other companies, like Midway USA for instance.

Might as well cut out the middle man and order from PV to start with.

Powder Valley is consistently the cheapest. But sometimes Graf's or Widener's or Natchez will beat PVI on a special deal. I check all of them.

+1 for PV.
I just picked up an 8lb jug of powder and 10k primers, with the hazmat fee it is still a lot less than local price.

BE CAREFUL! If you buy powder and primes from a company like Midway USA you will get hit with TWO Hazmat fees because they don't store powder and drop ship from the vendor. If you think you are saving a few dollars you might be surprised by the additional hazmat fee. Powder Valley will ship both powder and primers on one hazmat fee as will a few other online vendors.

BUT, if you're buying only 5000 primers and one 8/lb jug of powder I doubt you will save any money buying online. You can usually add $40 - $45 to the cost buying online so unless you are saving at least that much from local prices it's not worth it.

I am also on board with powder valley. The closest store to me that sells reloading supplies is 30 min away. I never go to his shop anymore since he jacked up his prices when ammo became scarce (45.00 for a box of .380 fmj). There is a Gander Mtn and Bass pro shop an hour away but their prices are not that great. So for powder/primers powder valley wins. For bullets watch other venders for specials if you are stocking up.

I do not know where you live at, but if you live in N.E. Ohio check out Dawson Enterpriese in Massolion. There prices usely beat Powder Valley! It is pick up only they do not ship:fire:

I have settled on using HP38 for all my handgun loads. Co-incidently, nearly every caliber uses around 5g, some more, some less. Therefor, I finally figured out that 5K of SPP and 5K of LPP will suffice to load 8# of HP38. Makes it a lot easier to order.

Any local buddies that also reload? I usually go in with my friends and max out a PV order, very economical when you do that.

In SW MI we are fortunate to have a distributor whose prices are very similar to the large mail order suppliers. We pay the local sales tax and pick it up.

Wideners was cheaper than pv this time, and they had what I wanted. I just got 8 lbs of hp 38 and 15k lpp. They didn't have any spp though, atleast not wolf. I got wolf primers for 15.50 per k. Pv is up to 20 now. All the other primers were 27to32 dollars, I just got some at the local bi Mart for 30 dollars and Oregon has no sales tax so it made sense to just get them here.

I recently brokered a group buy of CCI primers from graf's for a half dozen guys at the gun club -- I think it was 42000. They were on sale for $20 per thousand, and splitting the hazmat and shipping over so many units added less than $1 per thousand. (I wish I had tacked on a bunch of SR primers for myself, but I didn't need them at the time)
