I have some Bullseye 88 - FS. Alliant said it was an OEM powder for which they have no load data. Has anyone ever used this powder that can help me out? I would hate to have to spread it on the yard. Thanks!

Call Jeff Bartlet at gibrass (270-685-2432) they handle a lot of surplus powders.
He might have some information on this powder.

Cool. Any idea of the age?
I would be tempted to work it up slowly as Bullseye for moderate pressure loads for 38 spl or 45 auto.
But I'm impatient. Prolly should do what jaguarxk120 suggests.

Where did you get it? All the "surplus" powders I've purchased from Bartlett have had info in the powder description on his site...

Someone gave it to me. Jeff hasn’t seen it before. It did come up on another post on this forum - but no load or performance data.

From Paul at Alliant in a post from Sept 2017:
Bullseye(R) 84/85/86 were developed in the '80's, so they have been around more or less the same time. The "newcomer" to the series is BE-88FS which I developed in the early '90's and is slower burning than BE-84/Power Pistol(R).
Hey, nice pickup on the Sport Pistol(TM) Dwp1957! We are receiving great feedback on that new powder so far, so I feel good about hitting the market we targeted.
Shoot well,
Paul

This is from post #41:

So if it's slower than PP, start with a PP load and carefully work up.

I don't know about possible detonation, but likely not with even a medium burning pistol powder. Also, the case is small, unlike small powder charges in, say a 30-06 case.

In your shoes, I'd get out my chronograph and start with a .38 or .357 case and a cast bullet and work up from there in a stout .357 revolver like a GP100. Start with minimum loads, and work up until you get complete burn and expected, but not top, velocities. Know the pressure signs and look for them carefully.

If you're not comfortable with this, give the powder away to an experienced reloader who would like the challenge. There is plenty of other powder available, currently, and this may not be worth your time and aggravation. It seems a waste to put it on your lawn.

Yes - I agree with your approach. I can start with my S&W 686 revolver. Just happen to have a Labradar too, but never tried it with a pistol, though. Anyway, I’ll use Power Pistol data as reference. Now that CMP cancelled Camp Perry I have time to mess with pistols again.

Ok, so it is slower burning than Power Pistol. You have a chrono. I would feel safe working up a load with Power Pistol first, working up to the max published charge. Chrono the Power Pistol load. Then repeat with the 88FS, and work up to the same velocity as the PP load. Watch for the powder being compressed, though, which might be possible with a slower powder. As long as the velocity is less than or equal to the Power Pistol load, and the powder isn't being compressed, the pressure should be less. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

So- I’ll load the middle or less of whatever the Power Pistol load is. Clock the speed and check for signs of pressure.

Yes, it is not a propellant intended for handloaders, so no load data. Sorry.
It is slower burning than Power Pistol(R).
Please be safe.
Paul
Any close equivalent powder to use for starting load data? All the surplus (?) powders I have use an equivalent powder data, like my WC 820 vs. H110 and my BR-5 vs Unique...

Power pistol seems closest per Paul. But just for perspective-Time to consult a burn rate chart to see what other pistol powders are down from power pistol.

We’ll BE-88-FS Fans- here’s the field report you have been waiting for: I loaded 5.5 gn into random 9mm cases with CCI #500 and 115FMJ. Shot about 1060 fps avg and recoil with a Ruger P89 was so soft that I thought it was a 22. I’ll see how this load groups next time and will try it in a SIG 365. Thanks for all the help.

Just remember, the burn chart will tell you which powders are faster and slower but not HOW MUCH faster or slower.

Burn speeds are also relative when loading different cartridges.

Velocity was spot-on for Power Pistol, by the way. I have to get the numbers off my device and I can publish when I get the chance.
