This is a 2 part inquiry. Involved is a Ruger Mod 77 Mk II
I am having difficulty determining if I have move the shoulder back of a .220 Rocket cartridge case. Initially I fire form a .220 Swift and neck size for 4 - 5 loadings and then have run the fired case through a F/L sizing die. It feels as though after resizing that the shoulder need to be moved back.
I have removed the firing pin from the bolt when sampling the sized case in the chamber but still I notice more resistance when closing the bolt, more than I think is acceptable.
Could the ejector pin be what is creating the "drag" as I close the bolt? I tried to drift out the retaining pin to get it out of the bolt but am meeting resistance and am leary about wacking it too hard (the retainer pin).
I guess I dont understand how just removing the firing pin assembly how any resistance when closing the bolt would be removed from the felt force and makes me think that it the ejector pin spring force I am feeling.
Also I have devised a jig to use with my caliper to measure any change in the shoulder to base length when I attempt to push the should back. Could it be that the shoulder is back as far as I am going to move it (without a good feel with the bolt closing - again maybe the ejector pin pressure- is making think that its not as tight a fit as it seems.
Sure would like to figure this out and have exhausted everything except the ejector pin interference. Do I need to use more force in driving out the retaining pin? Any diagrams I can find make me think its a straight pin and not directional.
