I am looking at a P3AT which comes with a lifetime warranty only for the original owner. Given the "history" of kelTecs, I am concerned about buying one used, but I can get one for maybe $75 cheaper than new by buying used.

Would you generally prefer to save money and buy used, or get the lifetime warranty and pay more for a new gun?

For what a Kel-Tec cost I'd buy it new. If we're talkin S&W revolvers used pinned bbl models are the way to go.

Unless you are experienced enough to be a good judge of used guns you may end up just buying someone else's problems.

The warranty is worthwhile on a Kel-Tec, unless you can shoot it before you buy it to know you won't need it.

Sometimes you can get the best of both worlds...for example, SA honors their warranty no matter who bought the pistol originally.

I'm not familiar with Kel-tec products however.

If $75 buys a lifetime warranty, spend the extra $$! I have bought my share of used guns -- '69 Python, HK Expert 45 & BHP come to mind. It really depends on the gun & the deal

In this case I would buy new. If you find a good deal on a used Taurus however it comes with a lifetime warrenty on the firearm no matter who the owner is ;)

Since the Kel-Tec P-32 or P-3AT will run you just over $200 buy it new, especially since Kel-Tec says they are only rated for 5,000 rounds.

Other handguns that are no longer manufactured will leave you no choice but to go into the used market.

Your Poll is a little misleading if you are talking about a Kel-Tec pistol only.

i would say buy new, for the amount of difference there is no reason not to, with other guns out there i say buy new but for that price new get it new!

I was thinking the same thing.

I have purchased over 20 guns used including a used P-32 and never had to have any work done on them. Your chances of having to send it back are pretty slim in my opinion.

Depends on the manufacturer. Kel Tec has a lifetime warranty which I think goes along with the gun, regardless of who owns it. My boss has a Kel Tec P3 he bought used and he's had warranty work done on it before... But I don't know how much effort was needed on his part since I never heard the whole story.

I have found that most guns are bought new and not shot a lot. Not only that but a lot of campanies will stand behind their product even if you are not the original purchaser.

I broke the ejector on my P11, called Keltec, and they sent me 2 replacements. Didnt even ask me if I was original purchaser, or serial#. They were great to deal with.:) Call them and ask about transfer of warranty.
