Buying 9mm brass.

While processing some 9mm I picked up at the Range I ran accross this case from Maxxtech. I never saw one before ,Has anyone else? It has a ledge inside that prevents reloading of a normal 115 grain bullet.

Those are the worst of them all, but there are other brands like FM and others that also had ledges. My Ammobot driven Dillon RL1100 has a sensor with a plunger to detect those, which it will automatically kick out.

You know you're old when you spend more time collecting brass than shooting while at the range...

At today's ammo prices it's not too hard to spend more time picking up spent brass than shooting. My friends say it's like an easter egg hunt. LOL

Because major manufacturers keep experimenting with case metals which are not brass and therefore not reloadable. And one day when this new replacement case metal become substantially cheaper, then brass will become the hottest commodity in reloading.

They way it looks it may be plastic we will be picking up soon, I have seen a few laying at the range already.

Those wacky Bosnians. Some of their 45acp are stepped too.

edit: what I mean is these I believe are from the Bosnian firm GH and some but not all of their cases are stepped. This is a 9mm that’s not stepped. IMG_4430.jpeg IMG_4429.jpeg

Yup, run into it all the time. Usually "Ammoland" and "IMT", but the most frequently encountered is "FM"...which I believe is Freedom Munitions. It is actually quite popular with some folks loading "9mm Major" because they aren't loading their bullets seated very deeply and the reduced case capacity helps increase pressure

According to AFTE, you hit the trifecta, Freedom Munitions is the source of all you mention plus X-treme & LAX. From the AFTE website:

“Freedom Munitions is the parent company of multiple ammunition brands. They are located at the same address in Lewiston, Idaho as brands such as AmmoLoad and X-Treme Bullets. They also offer both primed and unprimed re-processed cartridge cases. Other iterations on the 9mm Luger caliber cartridge cases include "FM 9MM LUGER", different from the "FM 9mm" seen here.

“Kash CA, Inc. purchased the umbrella of companies related to Freedom Munitions and Howell Machine and Technology in 2019 and is still the owner, currently producing headstamps with Freedom Munitions, "FM", "X-TREME", "LAX", and "IMT".”

Last time I was at the range about 3 weeks ago I picked up over 300 9mm brass cases all federal. I also picked up a little over 100 444 cases which I decaped, cleaned and used for trading. I typical will pick up brass in demand regardless of if I shoot or not. It does come in handy for trading materials.

I actually declined 50 or so 9mm on Monday. I see the guy most weeks and he’s always giving me his brass. But, I’ve got enough. Hard to believe it’s really me saying/doing this.

I,m lucky in the fact most shooters where I go know I reload and they give me their Brass, Most times I come home with a lot more Brass than I came with.

For years I collected any brass I could find lying about. As far as 9MM I have about three 5 gallon buckets full presently. For a while I would sort it by headstamp and sell it cheap by the thousand. I even traded a guy a medium flat rate box of plated brass for 1500 45 ACP bullets. When I have spare time when its cold out I will process bags of range brass up to the point of belling the mouth and store. All I need to do is prime, drop charge, and seat a bullet in 500 quantities when needed. That is one of my buckets full. Selling my spare/odd brass has subsidized my lead bullet purchasing from Missouri Bullet for years.

Around here cartridge brass has been going for around $ 1.65 a pound. Nothing to sneeze at for sure. Just make sure you run a magnet through it to remove the steel plated cases first. They do it at my yard and will only give steel price ($.06 LB) if anything is found.
