I really love both of my walthers but now ive decided to get rid of my P99 which is in .40 S&W because the trigger gives me massive blisters on the bottomside of my shooting finger. I do love my P22 though and I will still keep it. Im thinking I can trade the P99 for 490 or 500 dollars since i bought it for 520 and then buy a handgun in 9mm or .45, still havent decided yet. Im really looking at the Ruger P345 in .45 and then again I want a 9mm for ammo price. Any ideas on a 9mm pistol (besides a polymer one)?

if you don't want polymer save some extra cash and get a used BHP

Take a dremel and smooth that ski slope down in the trigger guard.

I think you are being a bit optimistic if you are thinking of trading it at a local gunshop. Try to sell it or trade it outright on your own if you can.

I am not trying to rain on your parade I just don't want to see you go into a gunshop and get totally blown away by what they are likely to offer you.

forgot about those bhp's. looking into prices now... I would do that dremel thing but that would lower the value even more. and about how much the dealer would give me im going to call now to see how much he would give me. thanks for the imput.

Since CDNN is blowing out walthers, I would think, IMO, you would be lucky if a dealer offered you $350. Cslinger is right, better to try to sell it locally, online or in the paper.

hmm the high power's are too much. forgot to mention i need a pistol in the $400 range.

walther P1? i can't think of any other non-polymers you could get for about $400. if you didn't mind polymer i would say get an SA XD.

Hmm... CDNN is also blowing out FN HiPowers for $399, or are they all sold out now?
I got one about six months ago -- great gun, great price, great service from CDNN.

Why not not put it on THR for trade or sale and see what anybody offers you. If I didn't already have a P99, which I love, I'd make an offer. I got mine from a guy on Glocktalk for $420 with 2 mags. Pricewise, you might consider a CZ-75 in 9mm or 40. Also consider checking J&G Sales website. They often have closeouts on new handguns. Last spring I got a new S&W 4583 Tactical in alloy for $389 from them, a real good buy IMO.

Boo, check out the CZ-75 Compact that C-rum has in THR classifieds. I have that same CZ and its been very accurate and reliable. He has a good price on it too.

Get a Ruger P89. I bought mine new for $349 (can't wait to pick it up! :) ). The P89's are built like tanks, reliable, with excellent customer service. The DA trigger is a bit heavy, but then the SA ones are very nice. No blisters! :)

Did I mention that as a 9mm, you can shoot twice as much as with .45 for the same money? :)

That's why I bought my SA XD9. Cheapest full-power handgun cartrige stronger than a .22 LR.

cool, im looking at the XD9 now with the 4 inch ported barrel. and imput on this thought? also a question: uhh... it says double action only hows the trigger on the XD?

The trigger on my SA XD is as good as the one on my 1911 (after you take up the half inch of slack in teh XD, ofcourse) It is technically not a DAO, it is striker fired. The trigger is a bit heavier, probably around 6-8 lbs, but its a duty gun.. you can get a trigger job on it.

I think you would be very happy with the XD9 if you don't mind getting another polymer. The grip angle is the same as the 1911s and the grip area is roughly the same as a 1911 with an arched msh.

If I were you I wouldn't get the ported barrel, it will cut down on felt recoil but thats about the only good thing it will do. It will be much louder, you will have flames shooting out of the top which would suck at night, and it would suck if something fell onto the top of your handgun, dirt and stuff would drop right in. Also its just one more place that is going to be covered in carbon and be one more spot you have to thouroghly clean. If it is going stricly be a range gun that stuff might not be a problem for you. The ported version is also probably about another $100. I got mine for $480 out the door:

That damn trigger has made me so mad over the years!!!!

I just do not understand the ski bump. I want to understand the logic. It appears that the bump is there because the trigger is so small and rounded. I could see getting the skin caught between the trigger and guard if the bump was not there. That would cause even more pain and possibly stall the gun. Why wasn't the trigger normal from the get go?

I have some old walther catalogs that show a trigger with a much less pronounced curve. The Walther representative I spoke with thought I was crazy when I asked him about it.

My P99 is 99% perfect. A normal trigger would make it just fine.

really liking that xd, even though it is polymer. looks like ill be getting a polymer because theres no other non polymer 9mm in my price range. well there is the ruger p345 in .45 but im not sure if i want a .45 because of ammo cost.

something to consider: If you get a .357 sig or .40 S&W XD you can buy a 9mm barrel it will drop in and you then have 2 or 3 guns for the price of 1 plus two barrels.

Just a point of contention.

The XD is technically a single action pistol. The striker is held back, ready to fire and simply released by the pulling of the trigger, where as a Glock is held at half cock and sort of half cocked and released when the trigger is pulled. The Glock can be considered double action but as far as I know the XD cannot.

Semantics aside XD/HS2000 triggers are very good especially for the breed. As a rule the gun should be reliable and very accurate, althought they do tend to throw a flyer now and then at least the HS2000s did. They break down very easily and safely and all in all seem to be a lot of pistol for the money. Personally I would stay away from the ported version but that is just me. It's only a 9mm unless you have some extreme athritis or carpal tunnel you should be just fine.

May I then humbly suggest you take a look at the CZ 75B. Brand-new ones are currently going for just a tad over $400, and sometimes even below that when they're on sale.

The Springfield XD-9 would also be an excellent choice, but watch out for the finish on the slide, which has a tendency to wear prematurely.

You should be able to find an all-steel 9mm in your price range. Look at CDNN's BHPs, used S&Ws, CZ, and Ruger.

Full Auto P99

My father had big problems with his Walther. Walther just replaced his .40 P99 with a 9mm P99. The .40 is a real dog. At least the magazines leave much to be desired. He blew out the bottom of the mags on at least ten magazines. Some were replacement magazines that were supposedly from good stock. On top of that, the gun went back to the factory three times for going full auto. He is thinking of selling rather than shooting the new 9mm.
