C&R and UPS signature?

OK, after hearing about the juicy goodness of a type 3 C&R license, I can't wait to get mine!

But, with my wife and myself both at work, how the heck can I get someone to sign for all the guns?

Surely not everyone here has roomates, a stay-at-home spouse, lives with their folks, is self employed, etc?

I mean, I'll still get it for the discounts and such, but it seems the mail order part really won't work for me, and I'm wondering how others deal with it...

It depends on your UPS person. Some will leave the package anyway, despite the sig requirement.

As far as I know, UPS allows drivers and distribution managers to make this decision locally based on package theft rates, the neighborhood, etc. Our area is a "no drop" location, but I see my driver enough that he and I talked and agreed on a location at my house he will leave packages for me.

Try to grab your driver and have a conversation.

I don't know if it is UPS policy but most of the time I'm receiving a firearm via UPS it gets delivered after 5PM. If they try to deliver when no one is home they leave a sticky on the door saying that they will try two more times or you can call them up and pick it up at the full-service location.

I'm in the same category with no one at home during the day to sign for deliveries. I just have them hold the package at their local terminal and pick it up there when I get off work. You can actually do this on the computer using the tracking number.

Don't know how you guys get the driver to leave guns at the door with no signature. The UPS/Fed Ex drivers here will not even let you sign the little tag they leave on the door instructing them to leave the package.

I don't know how they do it either. I got two pistols back from refinishing this summer. I was home for both deliveries and didn't have to sign for either. Neither had signature required which I usually see on gun shipments. Need a shrug smilie...

"Signature required" is an extra cost option that the sender opts for or not. It's not UPS policy alone. I get C&R guns a couple times a month and it varies by wholesaler whether or not my driver wants a sig.

Never the less, the law does require a signature upon delivery. See 27CFR, 478.31(d).

(d) No common or contract carrier shall knowingly deliver in
interstate or foreign commerce any firearm without obtaining written
acknowledgement of receipt from the recipient of the package or other
container in which there is a firearm: Provided, That this paragraph
shall not apply with respect to the return of a firearm to a passenger
who places firearms in the carrier's custody for the duration of the
trip.

My UPS driver will make a late stop by my house if there's something with a signature required. I think she just swings by on her way back to the hub, I'm sorta close to the one bridge between my county and the hub's county.
