C&R arrival and a question

Well, my big wait is over. 6 1/2 weeks. I have heard of others getting theirs in much shorter time, so maybe ATF is a little more backlogged these days, or maybe it took longer because I'm in PRK. Anyway, my credit card is toast.

Question: I am supposed to "post" this license. Now I doubt that many actually do this, and I also doubt that ATF worries about things like that, but I don't mind doing it, just so I can be as fully in compliance with the law as possible. What does it actually mean, though? If I tack up a copy (can it be a copy? Must it be signed?) inside my safe, is that "posted"? Must it be posted outside where the public can see it?

When I get mine I am going to frame it along with a snide comment about how I am one of "trusted" americans. It will look real nice along with my Ruger Ad collection.

No need to post it. After I made by bajillion copies of the original (NEVER sign your original license), I put the original in a plastic sleeve in my bound book (I use a thin 3-ring binder). It stays there with my records and receipts so if I'm ever audited, I just give the ATF guy one binder with everything he needs to see.

I am in PRK and have a C&R license. Can a PRK dealer sell me a curio and relic firearm without making me wait?

Not unless you also have a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Cal DOJ. It costs $75.00 for the first year and, I think $13.00 per year to renew. I don't think it's worth it, but you can decide for yourself. The C&R FFL by itself doesn't do you a lot of good within California. It's value is in interstate transactions.

I just got mine too but have not yet used it. I've read the books that BATF sent with it and am still a little confused. I'm also in PRK.

I read it like I can buy a C&R rifle, through the mail, on line or at a show, no worries, same day delivery, etc. All I need is a signed COPY of my C&R lic.

But I can't buy a C&R handgun without the standard DROS, 10days, etc no matter where it comes from.

Am I mistaken?

California law says that all firearms transfers in California must be conducted through a California dealer. There is an exception to the law that transfers of C&R rifles and shotguns that are over 50 years old do not have to be processed through a dealer. Those items are the only ones that you can have sent to you directly. California does not care about your C&R FFL. The exemption applies to everyone. The FFL allows you to comply with Federal law.

You can, however, use your license while out of state and bring any C&R firearms back to California, except for those evil "assault weapons". You have to register any handguns within 5 days of bringing them ito the state.
