It seems I recall having read somewhere that the C&R application should be printed on 8 1/2 x 14 paper, not on 8 1/2 x 11. Does anyone know if that's correct?

Thanks in advance,

R-Tex12

Yes, it needs to be printed out on Legal sized paper.

The downloaded PDF from the ATF website will not fit on standard letter sized paper. If it does, it's because Adobe Acrobat automatically shrunk it when printing.

Don't know how stingy the ATF processors are about the wrong paper.

"Don't know how stingy the ATF processors are about the wrong paper."

I just got mine, so evidently they don't sweat it. But be sure to send in *both* the application and the certification of citizenship (or whatever it's called).

The C&R application (ATF F 7CR) is suppose to go on legal size paper. The citizenship form (ATF F 5330.20) can go on regular 8.5"x11" paper -- it needs to be printed landscape.

Wow...

The ATF processing forms on the wrong size paper...

Thanks, all! My Queen found some legal-size paper for me, so I'll use it just to avoid a federal "gotcha".

I have one MORE question, if your patience permits. Do I need to fill in my personal data in box #7? That's the one that says, "List below the information for each individual owner, partner, and other responsible persons." According to the instructions, it looks as though that box could be only for corporations, but it's worded it such a way that I'm not sure. Nowhere else does the form ask for age, race, & SSN, so it looks as though I should put my info there.

Thanks again,

R-Tex

Here are the instructions I got from somewhere (I can't find the link, so I'll post the whole thing below):

In #7, list your full name again in the 1st column (same
as #1 above), your position in the 2nd Column is
"COLLECTOR" and social security number, 3rd column is
you full current address again (same as #3 above), and
name all states in which you have resided in in the last
5 years.

Instructions:

1. Download the forms, both ATF F7CR (5310.16), and ATF
F5330.20, and printout 2 copies on Legal size paper
8.5 x 14"

2. Read the instructions on page #2 of the form ATF F7CR
#'s 1 thru 10.

3. Use typewriter, (except for signatures), or ink: On form
ATF F7CR (5310.16), items number 1 thru 5 are self
explanatory, notice that #2 is the "COUNTY" where
collection activity will take place.

4. In most cases items #6 will be marked "Individual".

5. In #7, list your full name again in the 1st column (same
as #1 above), your position in the 2nd Column is
"COLLECTOR" and social security number, 3rd column is
you full current address again (same as #3 above), and
name all states in which you have resided in in the last
5 years.

6. Following columns are place of birth, listing city,
state, county, and country. Date of birth DD/MM/YY,
Race, white / black etc. Sex, Male / Female.

7. Items 8 and 9, must "ALL" be truthfully answered "NO"!

8. Read and understand Item #10. Comply with all 4, inital
all 4 completed. Finally give the name and address of
the Chief Law Enforcement officer to whom you sent or
delivered copy #2 of this application.

Here's a copy of my letter...

Dear Chief [whomever he is]:

Enclosed please find, as per federal regulation, a copy of my ATF Form 7CR. You are not required to take any action with respect to the enclosed form. If I can be of any service, or if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,
[My name]

It is not necessary for you to speak with the CLEO, discuss, or prove anything, or receive permission. The statement you are initialing simply says that you "sent or delivered a completed copy of this form to the Chief law enforcement officer of the locality in which the premesis is located"! Meaning simply use the US mail, and initial the box.

9. Read the certification item #11, sign your full name,
your title again is "COLLECTOR", and the date.

Thats it! make sure you attach citizenship form ATF F5330.20, a check or money order (with your social security number added), for $30 and mail to:

I don't have the current address anymore, I'm sure it's on the latest forms though

A note about the ATF F5330.20 Citizenship Compliance form to be attached.

Item 1, is the name of the person on the application for license, That's you!

Item #2, is the name of the person certifying the citizenship of the person in line 1, who is also the person who completed this form, That's you too, in most cases.

Excuse my ignorance...

OK, what is a C&R License?? Sounds like it could be related to gun collectors?

Is there a reason for your average gun owner who buys from an FFL, and keeps them in his home to have one, especially if he is not selling or trading any of them?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi, blckthree -

You're exactly right - C&R stands for "Curios and Relics", and the license permits you, as a collecter, to purchase qualified firearms directly from wholesalers and dealers. The firearms can be shipped directly to your home.

The license costs $30 and is valid for 3 years. A good site to visit for pretty complete info is http://www.cruffler.com . Down near the bottom of the home page under the heading "Departments", is a category titled "Becoming a Cruffler". It also provides a link to the BATF website that will identify which firearms qualify as Curios and Relics.

BTW, for those wanting to file an application, the current address on the forms I downloaded is obsolete. The lady at the Dallas BATF office told me the proper address is:

BATF
PO Box 409567
Atlanta, GA 30384-9567

Here's a pretty good thread on the subject: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59940

HTH,
