CA AB 962 signed into law

Going the route of the courts, it will take forever for this to be overturned. The quickest way for the people to get this repealed is with your vote. But I bet most people there are actually in favor of it. I don't have much good advice for those 2A advocates except move, which is not likely a viable option.

I'm moving in two weeks...it's been planned for months, but this just confirms my decision to leave.

The flip side of that is that Federal courts in Cali are well known for their, shall we say, "interesting" decisions. Those courts are much less predictable than the other circuits even when the law seems clear. The other side of that is that a lot of the cases the Supreme court ends up taking are wacky California circuit court decisions.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (Federal courts for CA) recently (within the last year) decided that the Second Amendment is incorporated.

Whereas, the Second and Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals (Federal courts for NY, CT, VT, IN, IL & WI) have recently decided that the Second Amendment is not incorporated.

So, which side will SCOTUS go with?

So this only affects "handgun" ammunition? What about .22? Cause this could put a serious ding in my .22 habit...

In this case, .22, if the seller has a reasonable belief that you are purchasing for use in a rifle and not a handgun then he can sell it, IIRC. So which pistol round does not have a rifle counterpart? .40, .357 Sig., .32, does the Thompson SMG in .45 or the MP5 in 9mm count, and how about purchasing .223 since there are .223 pistols out there? These kind of laws just make me laugh and wonder about the mental stability of people sometimes. LOL!

Re: "Another anti-gun Republican governor in California? Reagan and now Arnold? What is wrong with these worthless ex-actor GOP members?". I could be wrong, but I do think I caught the end of a news blurb about Arnold at a Democratic party fund raiser...

On the other hand Arnold vetoed a bill to eliminate gun shows on public property, to wit the Cow Palace in SF Bay area.

On the third hand, for anyone that needs more than 50 rounds there is always reloading as the components are excluded from the regulation.

The press release/article really chaps my hide.

15 out of the 16 county sheriffs on record regarding this bill were AGAINST it.

Yet the press release makes it sound like all of law enforcement was strongly in favor of it. Not true.

If you think Arnie is bad (and he is), just wait and see what happens if/when Jolly Jerry Brown gets into office......again!

It's our political system, and the breed of animal called "politician".

Let the California Ammunition Black Market begin. The criminals will be trafficking in ammunition real soon if this is allowed to stand. This will not reduce crime on any level. More feel good legislation that doesn't do good.

very little resistance

It seemed to me gun owners did not care or ......(I dont know what there excuse is). But for months I asked people to call/write the legistrators The answer I got from most was "the NRA will fight it".I asked if they belonged or supported the NRA or Cal. Guns and got that glazed over eye look like they drang cool aid.You would think besides selling guns that gun stores would have been big on the encouraging people to fight this. But not the case.Well when I go to work (at a gunstore) today it will be interesting to hear the whining. You know what really sucks. what goes in California spreads to the rest of the country. We are in a heap of .... of trouble.

Guy B. Meredith, the 50 round per month limit was removed from the legislation. It still sucks though. I approve of the girly-man comment.

Arnold confuses me...he signs this into law and vetos 3 other bills regulating firearms. No sense at all. With ammo prices already inflated in CA due to demand, and internet purchasing off the market, ammo suppliers in CA are just going to jack their prices up even more since there is no internet competition. At least we have over a year to fight this!

Lets hope the dumbasses in government realize that only law abiding citizens purchase guns/ammo legally. This will just increase illegal ammo sales to criminals.

Okay, so if homies are now allowed to transfer unlimited amounts of ammo to the gangs, what the heck is the purpose of this exercise? Or maybe I missed something?

Stop mail order/internet sales, so people have to use vendors in CA.
CA is going broke, lost tax revenue from online/mail order sales was the reason it got signed.

I'd like to see his data/evidence that this bill will reduce crime.

Very funny! 24.gif

As if he used any data or evidence when he made the decision to sign the bill.
Especially in reference to reducing crime! Hee Hee! That's a good one!!
He used only his feelings and fears; silly!:neener:

You're such a kidder! rolling.gif

Yes.

There is no 50 round limit.

This bill would require that commencing July 1, 2010, unless
specifically excluded, no person shall sell or transfer more than 50
rounds of handgun ammunition in any month unless he or she is
registered as a handgun ammunition vendor, as defined.

Stores can sell all they want.

50 rounds is how much that an average joe could sell or give to a friend or neighbor per month, legally. Of course, this is nearly unenforceable, and there are already laws in place that prohibit reloaders from going into business without licensing (mainly for safety reasons, but the effect is the same). It is further ridiculous because criminals don't generally need or carry even 50 rounds to commit a crime.

Target shooters are the only people who would be impacted.

The law itself would have a negative impact on gun clubs and ranges that sell ammo, because they would have to incur more expenses.

That's what this does:

1. Hurts small club ranges by making a revenue source less viable, or not at all viable with volunteer staff.
2. Makes ammo more expensive.
3. Reduces vendors willing to bother with ammo.

What is California's interest?

Sales tax. California's sales tax rate goes from 8.25% to 9.75% depending on location. That's on top of high state income and other taxes.

This is going to have to be fought tooth and nail. ANY victory for the anti-gun crowd is a loss for us. I wish you Californians the best in getting this overturned. The rest of us need to be on high alert for such legislation popping up in other areas of the country.

AB962 is designed to stop those thieves and criminals that are law abiding citizens.

Don't these idiots realize that once AB962 goes into effect the criminals will steal ammo from other people as to lead the police on a wild goose chase?

Ridiculous.

It should come as no surprise really.

And I don't want to here any Commiefornians complaining about it either. You guys keep voting these people into office!
