CA: Petition to PERMANENTLY stop illegals from licenses, welfare, tuition, etc.

On Wednesday, August 4, 2004, the Save Our License Committee, along with Assemblyman Mark Wyland, filed an initiative with the Attorney General with the purpose of prohibiting the government from providing services to illegal aliens.

The Attorney General issued "title & summary" on Wednesday, September 22nd which is the official approval to begin collecting signatures.


The are four major parts to the Save Our License Initiative.

1. The government shall not authorize or provide driver's licenses or government identification cards, in-state college tuition discounts, welfare and other tax-funded benefits to illegal aliens.

2. The State must defend this amendment against any and all challenges in state or federal court.

3. Private citizens have the right to sue the State or local government to insure compliance with this amendment.

4. Government officials and elected officials who willfully violate this amendment may be held personally liable for the costs of litigation.

The Save Our License Initiative puts the power back into the hands of the people by giving them the ability to enforce violations of this constitutional amendment, and hold those who violate the amendment personally liable for damages.

This initiative specifically exempts any benefits that are required under federal law.

You missed the biggest point.

Those suing to enforce the law must be able to charge their legal expenses against those being sued. Do it just like social advocates and environmental groups. In other words, you want to get paid for suing.

And Colorado is slowly following the California blight.... just changed to a construction job. More than half don't speak english....

To all THR members who are unlucky enough to reside in the PRK, you have my deepest sympathy, however it is far too late to take action against the single most destructive element in the demise of your State, Ilegal Aliens, mainly Hispanics but not totally.

Your Republic has already passed the point in time where anything like what you propose could be enacted. When the Hispanic population exceeds that of other minorities, and demand that daily life be conducted in Spanish, when the requirements to qualify for employment include the ability to speak Spanish, and when the predominent language heard at the

Lest we forget, the illegals in CA are from everywhere including Ireland. Hispanics tend to be the most visible. While I can agree with not issuing them licenses, or granting welfare or tuition, I don't see the illegals as the most destructive thing in this state. For me it's the uber-leftist mentality that spawns our runaway juries (making everything ripe for lawsuits), supports our one sided politicos (Fineswine, et al), tolerates crimes by protraying the incarcerated or arrested as "victims" and disinformation distributors that pass themselves off as the media.

Let's not turn this into a Hispanic bashing thread.

Very interesting petition and I hope that it works. But what does CA law say about the number of specific issues on a petition? Heere in WA, a petition can only have a single issue. We've had at least one petition slapped down in court because there was more than one issue in the text.

Hope the writers carefully searched the law and have written the petition so that it won't get struck down..

Here's my problem with that approach.

The standard of living in Mexico is so much lower than the standard of living in the US. Because of this Mexicans are happy to come to the US and work for a lesser wage and under worse conditions.

The result would be that the standard of living for those in entry level jobs or for unskilled labor would drop considerably in the United States.

We'd have more people living below the poverty level.

Those with valuable skills would be effected less.

Business owners would find labor cheaper, and in turn companies would be able to produce products for other companies cheaper.

The result? The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. The middle class shrinks.

That's not a recipe for a stable country.

The only ways I see to fix the problem is to keep out the vast majority of immigrants, or to improve the economies of our neighbors so that the difference in the standard of living isn't so great.

If the standard of living in Mexico was near that of the US, then I think your idea could work.

NAFTA is supposed to try and address that approach long term by increasing trade between us and Mexico. However, it's a slow process.

The problem in California is that illegals (of any origin) are a 'protected species'. In Los Angeles it is illegal for police to report them to the Border Patrol. In Oakland they stopped DUI checks because they were catching too many illegals without licenses. They cannot get unemployment (since they haven't worked) but it is illegal for the welfare people not to give them welfare payments.

These rules, put in place by our 'representatives' in the state legislature, are the problem. So the problem is caused by our representatives, not by the illegals. The illegals are simply a symptom of a sick political situation.

Find 'em. Fine 'em. Throw 'em back. No more problems. Now, we just need to decide whether I mean the illegals or the politicians.

I brought up the issue of illegals in last night HOA meeting (I serve on the board). The reception from my fellow board members was a mix of astonishment (that I'd even bring it up) and apathy. It seams like the main issue to the board is how much we pay for landscaping/snow removal service, with our Manager asking me if I'd be willing to pay higher HOA dues to ensure that the people we contract are legally eligable to work here in the U.S.

Damned right I am. It infuriates me the think about the possibilty that my HOA dues are being used to pay the salaries of those who would violate our immigration laws and undercut the wages for the positions they hold. Over the past 5 years or so, I've watched the demographic makeup of our landscaping, painting and construction crews change radically. While this is not a bad think in and of itself, the people on the crews now have a VERY difficult time speaking and understanding English, and I have grave doubts that all of them are citizens or legal immigrants/visa holders. So I've taken up the project of determining the HOA's legal exposure on this, and what we can do about it.

hkOrion: I'm in Colorado as well, so I too see the Californification of this state. I've a long time friend who works in the plumbing buisness. He's had nothing but scorn for the quality of the work performed by a majority of the immigrant labor in the construction trades. Seams like every job he has to go through and correct stuff that others have done wrong or gross deveation from blueprints, making HIS job more difficult and time consuming. [/Rant]

dav, I fully agree with the spirit of your post, but I must correct the above detail.

It is not illegal for the LA Police to report illegals to the BP.

This is a policy enacted by former Chief Daryl Gates; he didn't want illegals to be afraid to report crime or cooperate with LE.

This policy has been perpetuated ever since by succeeding chiefs.

You're right, the politicians in your state are making a bad situation much worse.

One thing you will never see one of those politicians admit is the effect those illegal immigrants have on the economy.

Many of those imigrants have left families behind in Mexico, and they send a significant portion of their wages back to their families while living off welfare.

This means that the wages that those imigrants are making aren't being spent in the US to help grow our economy.

It's kind of like outsourcing, except the government is paying living expenses and for health care of the workers while they siphon money out of our economy.

Why do the politicians aid in this? Because despite the fact that it's illegal, many of those illegal aliens vote.

Your government has been corrupted by the ability to buy illegal vote with government handouts.

Good luck getting this initiative passed. Hopefully it goes through, and at least most of it survives the federal courts.

Never be enforced.

Some years back kali voters passed a ballot initiative making it law that illegals could not attend public schools or use public hospitals or other taxpayer funded systems. The schools announced that they refused to obey the law. About a year later, a court threw it out but it made no difference. No state agency will enforce any law that requires a state or county facility to take responsibility for verifying legal status of people. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.
