:D :) im excited. as i stand here fondeling my t53. looks like im gunna have a good summer. sent away for my CR application. find out Omega has Chinese mausers, CMP has m1 carbines, century has 91/59's

What is the major advantage of the 59 over the 44? The 44 is $79.00; the 59 potentially double. I asked at Dunhams and all they could say is the 59 doesn't have a bayonet.

Doc, carbine w/o bayonet almost guaranteed to be non-counterbored, if that matters to you. They were 91/30s cut down to carbine length. I handled one once, had the chance to get it for < $100, I should have grabbed it.

they are indeed cut down 91/30s. and if your asking for the "advantage" of a mosin over anything, even another mosin, your in the wrong collectors niche :) they are just another interesting bit of history. cut down and stashed away to arm the populace for a wwIII that never came

Here's the deal, Doc. If you want to have a complete collection of ALL the 200-something Nagant variants you can't afford to ever make it happen. If, however, you want a complete collection of ALL the common Russian Nagant carbines then the 91/59 will complete ~1/3 of your collection. Add the M44 and M38 and you're there! I try to be pragmatic about complete collections. :)

You could make a collection of just M44's, as 4 other countries besides Russia made them.

The m91/59 will complete my carbine collection. Just need a Hungarian one for the M44 collection.

more than 4! russian, hungarian, romanian, pole, chinese t53's. the mythical M44 L ( unkown origin) Finn Captures, yugo reworked.

and those are just countrys! variations could go on for ever!! i hope i have another dream about mosins tonight.... ya, iv had a dream i was in a warehouse full of mosins once, got a problem with that?

I was referering to the other 4 other main countries besides russia that made them.

Don't forget the 91/38's

These were another batch of cut down rifles to the M38 size. These were done by the Czech's probably either to stock pile for the cold war or to sell to third world countries. They were made from the full size M91 rifle. Unlike the 91/59 they had a shorter M44 sight and were put in a regular M44 stock with the bayonet groove in place.

Everyone needs a US Model 1916 Mosin in 30-06 plus one of the Mosin 91s Remington did in 7.62x54r as part of there set. Now if I can convince my wife that I be sorted.

"Don't forget the US Remington Model"

I don't think Remington made a model M44. If i am not mistaken they made M91's for the Czar Goverment.

Good point though there tons of different Mosin Nagant's out there. With the 91/59 i will have all three different type of Carbines and when i get my T53 and Hungarian M44, will have a good collection of M44's

BTW whats the prices of Hungarian M44's going for these days? I have an offer out to me for a All matching Hungarian M44 in fine condition.

there. With the 91/59 i will have all three different type of Carbines

theres atleast 4 common carbines i know of
M38
M44
91/38
91/59

plus the rare brothers like the 1907 carbine

it is possible for a US Remington or WestingHouse to have been cut down to 91/38

as for the millions of variants
im still trying to find out if this is a real deal production or just some one off

Yep forgot about the 91/38. Were these ones cut down by the Czechs?
I was looking at the rarity list on 7.62x54r.net and they list 91/38 as czech. They list a remington as a 91/38. So i stand corrected.

Doc2005

Advantages

1) The cut down barrel is heavier than the M38/M44 barrel. The general consesus is that these are very accurate rifles and I would have to agree based upon the one I own.

2) The triggers were reworked and very smooth. Much better than the run of the mill MN's.

3) Workmanship during the refurb was very good. Mine looked practically brand new even though the barrel date is 1944. Recrown of the cut barrel is very nicely done too. Nobody seems to know exactly where these rifles were worked on, but whoever did it di a very nice job of it.
