Does anyone know the price you would pay for a Bulgarian cali legal Makarov? I have been to several gunshops here and I can't seem to find one and when I ask about ordering one they say its a "grey area". I know for a fact the Bulgarian ones are California Legal because its on the DOJ list and has passed the drop tests. I am not sure if I want to pay more than $300 though. Thanks

I wouldn't pay anywhere near $300 for one...I paid all of about $175 for my Russian Mak and I live in California too. Find one on Auctionarms.com and have them ship it to an FFL holder where you live (that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a transfer fee)!

My father is from Holland. Its a term the kids I grew up gave me when they found about my ancestry........it just kind of stuck with me. :)

prices will vary from 165-250 bucks. you will probably have to find one out of state, and transfer it to your local ffl. I got one a few months back and am very happy. I recommend you hurry, they will be illegal in california after january 1st.

Bluehawk: Is that legal? I've called around 5 places already (besides the fact that 3 of them charge more for transfer then gun actually costs) everyone couldn't tell me if that gun is legal for Cal? Who did you use? Is even owning one of those legal in this insane state?

Oh and can anyone explain to me why this gun might not be legal here? I don't understand it...

I haven't heard of Makarovs being banned in California but you can call the CA Dept of Justice in Sacramento and ask them...they are actually nice folks to deal with and are happy to answer any question you might have. My experience with them has always been pleasant.
Concerning buying guns from online auctions...yes it's legal as long as the gun is shipped to a Federally licensed gun dealer who will in turn transfer it to you after you pass a background check and 10-day waiting period. You will have to pay the standard Dealer Record of Sale fee plus the dealers transfer fee. (if that fee is over $25 keep looking!!!!) Auctionarms.com is the most popular auction site and it lists FFL dealers all over the country so you can look one up in CA and find out what their fees are...some are outrageous and others are fair...you have to look around!
As far as one standard issue Makarov being "legal" (Russian, East German, Bulgarian) in CA and another isn't makes no sense as they are all the same internally except for the high capacity model...that one takes a magazine over 10 rounds so that would not be legal in CA but the others hold only 7 or 8 rounds.
Good luck and hope you find the Mak you want...you will love it!

Hehe, i was about to post and retrieve my question as finally one shop got it for me around the same time you did... :)

So the 7th dealer i called finally told me that it was on legal list (the 6th guy said it was illegal, 5 other basically said they aren't sure but it looks illegal :scrutiny: ) So far the 7th guy was the cheapest ($40) but he is 150+ miles away from me... Places here range from $80 to $210.

I was very close to buying that thing on gunbroker.com but because the local :cuss: made me doubt it, so i didn't. Thanks for the link, I'll look there too. :)

Oh and I know i will enjoy it. Shot them growing up in Russia . :)

Thanks for info!

Cheers!
