I have a Steven's Model 200 in .223 remington. What parts besides the barrel and bolt head are needed to convert it to .243 winchester?

And a .308 size magazine box & follower I would imagine.

I don't think .243 is going to feed out of a .223 box.

just the headspace gauges

I ordered the .308 size magazine box when I ordered the bolt head. I didn't get another follower because every short action length specified .223.

Okay,next question....

Is the front baffle for the .223 longer than one for .250/.308 length cartridges? The bolt won't withdraw from the action far enough to feed .243 cartridges.

I just ordered a new front baffle for a short action,no photo or description available so I'm hoping it is the one I need.

Okay...here's the deal,I just received the front baffle for a short action (.243) from Brownell's,ordered sight unseen. Except for the finish,it is the same as what I already have. Also the .223 magazine box will have to be dismantled to remove. The old box looks like it would work for the .243 if the filler was removed(also have to be dismantled). Am I going to need a front baffle for a long action? Can I shorten the extra baffle until it will allow the bolt to fully retract? I could use some help from the Savage/Stevens gurus!

Okay.I shortened the front buffer and it works great! Now I need to know how to get the magazine out without having to destroy it?

Too bad I didnt see this earlier, I have a 243 I want to convert to 223...

What are you doing with your spare parts and barrel?

griff383,so far I haven't made any plans as to the .223 parts. In the back of my mind I was contemplating keeping them to swap back but we might work something out. I'll keep it in mind.

Im interested and not in a huge hurry quite yet. If you decide to get rid of them shoot me a PM and we can talk.

If you reload I have dies, brass, bullets, ect.. that I wont need anymore.

griff383-Too bad we didn't know what we each were doing beforehand. We could have swapped parts one for one and saved us both some cash!

Caliber swap update

Finally got enough parts for the change to .243 win. I first used a 22" sporter profile barrel but opted for this E.R.Shaw 24" heavy(thanks Jeff!). I pulled the Leupold VX-II from another rifle,it just seemed a better fit for the Steven's. Next up is a Timney adjustable trigger and finding the rifles favorite load! I never thought I would have so much fun with a Savage/Steven's,being a hardcore Mauser 98 guy!
