This bill would define "good cause" for these purposes to include
self defense
, defending the life of another, or preventing crime in
which human life is threatened, and would provide procedural
guidelines to the issuing authority on determining the presence or
absence of "good cause." The bill would make other technical,
nonsubstantive changes.

Unfortunately it failed!

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for three important pro-second amendment bills (AB 2053, AB 2152, AB 2115) that were presented before the Public Safety Committee on April 6th, 2010.

Unfortunately, each bill failed to pass. The votes were as follows:

AB 2053: This bill would define "good cause,” when applying for a CCW permit, to include self defense, defending the life of another, or preventing crime in which human life is threatened

- Chair Assemblyman Tom Ammiano – NO

- Vice-Chair Assemblyman Curt Hagman – AYE

- Assemblyman Jim Beall, Jr. – NO

- Assemblyman Danny Gilmore – AYE

- Assemblyman Jerry Hill – NO

- Assemblyman Anthony Portantino – NOT VOTING

- Assemblymember Nancy Skinner – NO

Damn, you got my heart pounding while i read the first part. I was so excited. California really needs to wise up and not shoot these things down.

Best you can do now is start campaigning against those that voted no.

Sorry dude, I would have loved to been able to come to CA and not be nekkid.

Even if the Dumbanator was replaced by Ronald Reagan we will still never get CCW as this state is run by liberals and socialists. They state is bankrupt in spite of high taxes and they only want to spend more - so they are insane. No hope here in what could be the greatest place on the earth.

You are aware that it was Ronald Reagan who signed legislation into law that outlawed Open Carry in the state of California when he was governor right?
Before that California had Open Carry much like neighboring Arizona today.

That he signed into law a 15 day waiting period in California and was proud of it (since reduced to 10 days)?
That he urged passage of the Brady Bill? Supported the creation of NICs? Supported a nation wide 7 day waiting period after purchasing a firearm?

That he promoted anti-gunners of the Brady Campaign to national prominence with his support:
This level of violence must be stopped. Sarah and Jim Brady are working hard to do that, and I say more power to them.

That if statistics improved even 10% through the loss of liberty and firearm freedoms it was worth it:
If the passage of the Brady bill were to result in a reduction of only 10 or 15 percent of those numbers (and it could be a good deal greater), it would be well worth making it the law of the land.

Here is a letter from Reagan himself detailing some of these things he was proud to support in 1991 when the Brady Bill was on the table:

He may have accomplished many things but he certainly was not as pro-gun as people imagined he was.
President Bush after him signed an executive order banning import of semi-auto "military style" weapons before we even had the "assault weapon" craze and restrictions. He was pioneering "assault weapon" legislation and differential treatment of certian types of firearms. So he was not much better.
Clinton was of course much worse.

+1

It's a shame that the liberals have the people by the throat. I lived in Torrance for a few years in the mid '80s and had an aunt that lived near Terra Bella. It was a great place and at the time I was sad to leave.

Now I'm glad I got out when I did, the clowns in charge are running that state so far into the ground that it's gonna take a geologist to find it when they're done.

Sounds a lot like the federal government of the United States, actually. You'll all join us in bankruptcy soon enough. All it takes is for investors--including Americans--to start betting against the country, then it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy and a grand testament to the futility and stupidity of eternally spending more than one earns.

Although I liked Reagan as a president overall, I definitely consider him anti-gun and a gun-grabber like most California politicians. One's party affiliation and position on the right-left political spectrum has little to do with guns in a nanny state like this one.

When I was stationed in Sacramento 69-78, California was a wonderful place with mostly safe streets, conservative thinking and lots of shooting to had with no hassles.

Makes me sick to think of what has happened to the state since.

My condolences to Californians. Keep plugging away to get pro-gun politicians in office. Maybe things will change in a few decades, more or less.

Should have said even if Chuck Heston was Governer we would never have CCW. Reagan was not the best choice as much as I admire him. Regardless, it is actually funny to watch mayor Tony Villar aka villarogosa fight his beloved unions in Los Angeles and make a move for a 3 day work week for the cubicle drones - LA is broke and so is the state. I decided to just enjoy the show now that we are about near the top in tax rates and stupid gun laws and are beyond broke.

Kali

Everyone who is reading this from another state, remember ,NEVER allow the Constitution to be changed to allow someone like the Dumbinator to be in the whitehouse. It's bad enough now.

What has happened to CA is called "liberalism".

JMORTIMER - "... we will still never get CCW as this state is run by liberals and socialists."

You're 100% correct. (I lived in Los Angeles for 36 years and know how the Marxist Socialist NeoLib Progressives took over all politics, slowly, slowly, just like cancer.)

As for Ronald Reagan, he was anti-guns and anti-Second Amendment for us worker peasant rabble.

L.W.

Even if we get a full conservative state Gubmint this year most of the decisions are up to the public. Liberal S.F. and backwards L.A. are two of the most populated cities here and unfortunately the dumbest when it comes to good ole American pride. They seem to be of the mindset that the government should do everything for them.

How is self defence not a good cause to carry a firearm?

For those who wield absolute power, there is NO legitimate cause for their subjects to carry firearms. The state can't have people relying on themselves--they must rely on the state! The police will take the place of self-defense. And if they show up too late to save you (not that they legally have to--too much liability there), then for goodness' sake, they'll do their best to catch the guy who killed you--who has rights, by the way, like all criminals--and throw him in prison until it gets too crowded and he's released early. The state will then name a new law after you, as long as you're a pretty girl, anyway. What more could you possibly ask for? You can't be permitted to defend yourself because then you might hurt yourself or somebody else, and these laws are created to protect you at all times: before, during, and after your senseless murder by some armed thug who does not obey these laws, so just be happy, hand over your guns and your money, and pipe down! ;)

Does a police officer carry a firearm to assault people or to defend themselves/civilians.

That's different--they are benevolent agents of the state, whereas you are a potential criminal at worst and a bumbling fool who can't be trusted to tie his own shoes at least. The police have the special privilege bestowed by the state--which makes it right--to carry firearms to protect themselves against armed criminals, and if you choose to arm yourself, then you are a criminal. ;)

Man, my girlfriend wants to live in CA when I graduate and she moves over to the states.
This would've been a huge step in moving me towards moving there.

Cali gun owners: rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Better luck next time boys & girls. And I do hope there will be a next time and a time after that and after that until you rejoin our hallowed land of freedom.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't going to happen. There are so many problems here, but as a native, beauty of the land itself and the weather make it hard to leave. It just irks me that all the carpet-bagging politicians that have moved here over the years have ruined it for us natives.
