Calling all of you who carry a 1911.

I really like my Sig 1911 .45acp's! Big BIG thumpin slug! 8+1 and 2 back up mags seems enough, god willing.

Gotta see if there are some smaller Sig 1911's that are California approved.

Either that or move. hehe

be safe

My 1911 is my social gun. I only carry it when open carry is on the menu. This is not based on any factor involving the gun, but it is the only handgun that I have spent the cash on for a good looking leather holster. Its a middle of the road 1911 (Para), but its accurate and reliable enough. Everything else rides is a polymer/kydex holster. The weight of a 1911 is not an issue for me, since at work I carry a belt that has a handgun, two mags, pepper spray, batton, two sets of handcuffs, and a radio.

Years ago I was at our range to requalify with my SIG P226. My buddy, Chuck B was in the next lane with his 1911. He asked me if I wanted to try it before my turn. I had never shot one before. After 6 rds, I asked him if I could qualify with it. Lo and behold I ran a perfect requal: 50 rds. I ordered a Kimber Stainless Target that day and would have started carrying it soon after if it had been 100%, but the hook was set. Traded for a Springfield Loaded, not nearly as accurate, but 100% for 10 years and 1000's of rds. Not satisfied with the accuracy of the Springer, I added a Kimber Target Master. Again very accurate, but again not 100%. I still have my SA Loaded, but now carry a Les Baer. It is reliable and has far more accuracy than I can shoot. Why do I carry it? Because as Clint Smith says, a gun should be comforting, not comfortable, although in a Milt Sparks holster it is both.

There is no 45 that is easier to shoot fast and accurately.

That said, while I compete with a 1911 I carry a Sig P220. I am very active and am not comfortable with a holster that doesn't have a thumb break retention strap.... Haven't seen one that works well with a cocked 1911.

bamsis said it absolutely perfectly :) ..."It's a bit like owning a Harley. If I have to explain you'll never understand. If you do understand then there's nothing to explain."

There is just something about it that's "right"...
