Just finished up my first Form 1 can. I cheated and bought a "solvent trap," but I'm still excited.

Titanium tube, caps and spacers. Freeze plug baffles. 8" OAL, .30 cal for .300 blk, uses YHM QD mounts. Parts, stamp, and mount I'm in for ~$570. Not bad.

I see extra smoke from the chamber of the the rifle, less from the muzzle, and the noise sounds the same? Is this my imagination? It is 2 hours past '....... Well?

Noise is definately different...goes from a duller thud to a sharper cymbal type sound. Electronics don't do well with high pressure level noises and disguises a huge change as only a slight difference. I'm betting sound reduction is very very noticeable in person.

That titanium can looks good. It will probably take on an anodized rainbow type coloration as it gets hot. Be very careful to deburr and machined or drilled bits as titanium produces a burning sensation that quite frankly hurts like hell, 6-4 worse than most other grades I am familiar with.

In person it goes from ear-splitting to a little louder than a .22

There is lots of excess gas in/from the chamber with the can. My eyes were not liking it. I think the next step is an adjustable gas block.

I suggest speaking nicely with mother nature and suggest a gentle but consistent breeze from 6 o'clock to 12 oclock...or talk to the walmart cashier and pay for a cheapo fan to push gas away from you. An on/off switch is easier than turning the gas key, or remembering to turn it.

A gas-buster charging handle is cheaper/easier than messing with the gas block. More effective, too.

Here's three more videos from today and some pictures. Rifle was zero'd prior to suppressor.

300 yd group. Elevation change was per the markings on my scope's turrets. Forgot to bring targets, so I was aiming at an old shoot-n-see that didn't perform on the "see" part. New holes showed up in the wood backer though. Group was low and right roughly 3" in both directions. 7 shots at this range.

Finally, just for fun:

Nothing fancy:

QD End cap -> blast chamber -> baffle -> spacer -> baffle -> spacer -> baffle -> spacer -> baffle -> spacer -> baffle -> spacer -> baffle -> spacer -> end cap.

Baffles are pressed freeze plugs.

i disagree 100%. A gas buster charging handle may mask you from getting gas in your face, but its a band-aid to the problem on most ARs which is they are over-gassed. The same goes for heavier buffers and spring gimmicks.

an adjustable gas block is easy to install, costs nominally more, 25-30 bucks more than a PRI handle (can be less depending on the brand) and can help cure most reliability problems that come from shooting suppressed and or using subsonic ammo.

Small update:

Got the chance to shoot my can and a .30 cal YHM phantom on my .300 blk pistol with subs while at my friendly class 3/SOT/cerakote dealer today.

Subjective opinion: my can was only the tinyest bit louder than the phantom. Same length, 1/8th inch more diameter on the form 1. Pretty happy

Congrats on the complete build!!

So how did you press the baffles, and how much angle do you think you got on em?

I'm losing hope that Iowa (my place of residence), will legalize silencers this legislative season. I still hope to build a Form 1 some day.
