Can you get a good pistol at a good deal at a Pawn shop?

I have been looking to trade my HK USP .40 for a sig p229r with no luck on any of the forums. Thinking about hitting up the pawn shops but the few I have been too always try to rip me off. Usually the gun is in POS condition and they try to get the price as if it was in good condition or try to push some ****ty pistol on you.

You don't say where you are. If you did, you might find that the board may provide you with some suggestions about reliable vs. unreliable dealers, pawn shops, shows etc. For example, if you were here in Colorado, I would recommend Gunsport in Boulder or Green Mountain Guns in Lakewood for fair dealing. I know that others on the board have experience and could offer you a suggestion or two if we knew where you were looking.

Oh yea, I have probably a dozen from pawn shops, to name a few. 3 1/2" 27, 4 screw model 15, snubbie's 15,and 66, 629 Mountain gun, 67 no dash,Ruger Speed Six,model 686. I have been very lucky.

Haunted guns?

I've never had a cursed gun like you, but if I work on them I am more careful to make sure of what I do before I start changing things.

There was a time once however that I was using my 12 ga on the range and it suddenly kicked like a mule. And the next shot wouldn't do anything.
It was empty!

About three rounds disappeared just like that!

I reloaded, and all five rounds dissappeared. Uoooph!

I looked it over. I cleaned it. I spent three or four years trying to figure out why it would act like a machine gun. Finally figured out something about the screw on cap on the magazine tube on my Winchester Model 40 being loose caused the gun to fire on rechambering.

Doesn't happen any more.

My $150 pawn shop Enfield, all numbers matching, and very nearly all correct. The scope was added, of course, which means three holes drilled and tapped in the receiver, and the rear sight assembly was missing. I've since added all the sight parts, got a correct sling and taken the scope off. Shoots pretty good, but I'm thinking about putting the scope back on, since it was already done, and see if I can shoot better with it.
