Can You Put I Side Folding Stock On Yugo Underfolder?

No, not easily. It has a different rear trunnion (receiver block).

Even fixed stock Yugo types have a proprietary rear block and can't take standard pattern side folders. (Unless they can use a variant of of milled stock?--Storm'll be along shortly to give you the details though. :) )

ETA--legally or mechanically? :D

Why would going from an underfolder to a side folder change it into a SBR?

From what I understand about AKs (which isn't a whole lot yet...) if you have an underfolder you are pretty much stuck with an underfolder.

Underfold has nothing to do with SBR unless the OAL of rifle is less than 26". Are a couple states that measure folded though, IIRC.
Trouble, is the rear trunnion.

accepted interpretation of the federal statute allows for the measurement to be made with stock extended. with stock folded most 16" bbld underfolders come in at about 25.35".

some states like michigan are more restrictive. in michigan an underfolder is regarded as a "pistol", since it folds to less than 26". a sidefolder 47 would be about 27", so would not be classified as a "pistol" in michigan.

converting an underfolder to a sidefolder involves replacing the rear trunion with a standard euro type and screwing on the folder. the underfolder parts could then be shipped postage paid to me to replace the one i took from one of my polish kits to use on the para hakim.

Depends on which side folder. The russian ones do not protrude past the rear of the receiver when folded (same as the u/f).

Yes but.......the rear trunion has to be changed out to put a side folding stock on a underfolding stock rifle. This will require the removal and replacement of two rivets that hold the trunion in the receiver. Depending on the type of rear trunions you swap out the rivets might not be in the same position so you may need to drill new holes in the receiver. So you will end up with at least one hole on each side of the receiver and two if the rivets are not in the same place on the trunions.

Plus, you have those two huge holes on either side of the receiver. (Unless you welded them over? Ugh...)

Here's a lot of pictures of the different types of receivers:

Possible to convert? Yes. Easy or cost effective? I don't think so. Solution? Sell the underfolder, buy a sidefolder. Spend left over, extra money on ammo.

IF ya start with a fixed stock Yugo then its not hard to fabricate an adapter for any stock as the Fixed stock uses a very simple square socket with a single center bolt and no tangs...

However to change an underfolder....... ya'd be much better off starting with anything but an underfolder, as ya'd have to cover the hinge holes in the reciever, replace the rear trunion with a side folder trunion, mill a hole in the front of the reciever to mount the stock latch etc... it would be much less labor/cost intensive and look a whole lot nicer to simply get a fixed stock M70AB1 reciever from Nodak spuds for $95 then rivet your front trunion, trigger gaurd into it then a standard sidefolder rear trunion.. ya could use a standard AKM rear trunion if ya were to get the FPK trunion from cheaper than dirt or Centerfire systems etc... for around $12 I think as its already thinned for the thicker reciever, then ya could use an East german or Romanian side folder but ya will need to thin the reciever insert and have to secure the insert if ya went with a standard AKM pistol grip nut rather than the milled pg nut and cut a square hole for it then ya could mount the side folder just like in a standard AKM

Those FPK trunnions fit the Yugo receiver nicely. I have a few I'm gonna make some Franken-Yugos from u/f kits with (I don't like u/f stocks).
