Can you tell me about the Savage 12 FV

The Boyd's Pro-Varmint is a good stock if you're willing to do a little work to make it fit properly - nothing really out of the ordinary, blocking and bedding. The 12FV is one of the only black/blued 12's, and with a lighter profile barrel, but it'll be very capable. I have multiple Savage 12's: two 12BVSS's in 223rem, heavier rifles than the FV, but functionally equivalent, and relatively similarly stocked to the Boyd's ProVar. Both are disturbingly accurate rifles. I have another 12 in 300wsm and "custom" built 12's built from donor actions in 243AI and 284 shehane (formerly 6.5-284, and 284win before that). If I can't hit my target with any of those Savages, it's certainly not the fault of the rifle.

That looks like a really nice rifle to me, although I don't own one.

I bought a Model 10FCP-SR in 6.5 Creedmoor for $499 about four months ago and I think it is almost incredible for the price. I regularly shoot it at 1000 yards and have taken it out to 1200 yards and I have no problem at all holding about two minutes at those ranges. So the rifle shoots pretty darn good. Right out of the box, I was really happy with the trigger, and have never messed with it.

The only thing I have to complain about is the barrel, while it shoots, is a major pain to clean. It copper fouls so badly that I am not sure I ever got every bit of the copper fouling out of the barrel. But, it doesn't seem to effect it's accuracy.

That would have been an epic buy. Congrats to anyone that got one. I am looking for another Savage in .223 and am trying to keep my eyes open for something like this. Because you can get some amazing deals on brand new Savage rifles if you are alert for deals like that one. That 6.5 I got was a great deal and I just happened to be in the store when it was on sale. I was looking at chassis rifles and noticed they had my rifle on sale for $499 and I immediately bought it. I was lucky I happened to be there. The next week they were $699 for the same rifle.

Odd thing, on the savage site it does not show this model. I hope it isn't discontinued, Cabelas says not in stock, but "backorderable." I hope this is the case.

I bought one for my son chambered in .308 Win. and it shoots great. His prefers 175 gr HPBT bullets and he enjoys shooting steel out past 800 yards. I think I paid $379.99 for his on sale. The only drawback is that 26" barrel is kind of cumbersome getting in and out of vehicles, and of course, with a high powered scope, it weighs a ton.
RussellC , it is a Cabela's exclusive model, which is why you don't see it on the Savage website. Same for the Model 10T, also a Cabela's exclusive model absent from Savage's website. (I have one in .308, and it shoots great, too.)

How's the recoil on that 308

That is exactly what I feel when I had my 308 12BV in laminated stock, very accurate but heavy! Front heavy with the 26" barrel. I sold it but missed it a lot!

Ahhhh, thanks for that, for a minute I thought I might be out of luck.

Thanks again,

One of the best deals out there right now for a rifle. These things shoot great, have a very good factory trigger, a comfortable bolt knob, the old style side bolt release that's easy to find stocks for, and just can't be beat for the price. The only thing that could use some work is the stock, which it sounds like you're planning to upgrade anyway. Even so, it's not horrible.

One thing to keep in mind is that $419 is the full price and these do seem to go on sale ever 2 - 3 months. It was $369.99 last month. Even at full price, it's still a great deal, but I'd be tempted to wait for the next sale.

I may just hold off for a few days and see if they have a Labor day sale

Hello I'm just about to pull the Trigger on a new rifle and just need that little push I'm looking at a
Savage rifles this one http://www.cabelas.com/product/SAVAGE-FV-VARMINT-RIFLE/1994604.uts?searchPath=/browse.cmd?categoryId=734095080&CQ_search=savage+rifles a
my plan is to put this in a boyds pro varmint stock will this make a good target Rifle set up

I bought one last year when there was a rebate on them so I ended up paying $319 after the rebate.
Left it in the stock it came with and mounted a scope on it. First day off the bench sandbagged, with Hornady Superformance 50 grain it shot groups from 7/8" to 1 1/2" at 325 yards.
Oops. Forgot to say mine's a 22-250.

Savage 12 stainless 22-250 3-14-2017.jpg
I bought a 2003 Sav 12 in 22-250 for $475 + $45 tax = $520 in March of this year.
I am in the process of replacing the barrel, stock, trigger, scope.
I have made the 20 degree V block from scratch.
I have made the bolt handle knob from scratch.
I have the Lilja barrel threaded, chambered in 250 Savage, and headspaced with a shoulder, instead of the Savage nut.
I got the paint off the receiver and bolt.

$319 at Cabela now. You can order online and pickup at store. Backorder OK. Apply a Cabela card and $25 off.:)

Is $319-$25 enough a push? Savage has $100 rebate going on now, but I don't think the Cabela 12FV applies. Would be a huge push if another $100 off after rebate!

That's a great price for that rifle
You stick a scope & some ammo & it is over 10 #'s
It is a bench rest shooter unless you love to lug all that weight'
I have a 24 X scope on mine
It is so accurate that it is almost boring to shoot
ENJOY

It does apply. At first Savage called me and said no, and in middle of my "what the heck" call to Cabelas, (who was going to make it right) Savage called back apologizing for the accidental misinformation. Plus, when I ordered mine, the had free shipping to boot!
