I am thinking that some of y'all may want to check out the following link to see what Canadians are dealing with.

www.whyfor.com/firearm/quotes.html

Among these little gems we have:

..."protection of life is NOT a legitimate use of a firearm in in this country sir! Not! That is expressly ruled out!" Allen Rock Canada's former Justice Minister (Attorney General) Calgary Alberta December 1994

... "C68 (Canadian Bill C68 was Canada's version of the AWB) has little to do with gun control or crime control, but it is the first step necessary to begin the social re-engineering of Canada." Sharon Carstairs Liberal MP Winnipeg Manitoba 26 January 1996

... "There's no evidence that registering guns reduces the level of gun violence. It's not that I don't think it's something worth doing, (but) it's something you do much later." Kim Campbell former Canadian Minister of Justice and former Prime Minister Montreal Gazette 04 December 1999

... we're not interested in confiscating their guns, as long as they are legitimate gun owners, as long as they store them appropriatley, transport them appropriately and so on ..." Anne McLellan former Minister of Justice current Deputy Prime Minister Ottawa Ontario 22 September 1998

There is however some hope for some gun owners here in the Great White North. In reference to the proposed handgun ban, the Deputy Prime Minister has given individual provinces the option to opt out.

..."I am certanly willing to concede that there may be parts of the package that are more attractive to some cities or provinces than others, which is why with the handgun provisions, we have given provinces complete latitude in terms of whether they want to be part of it." Anne McLellan Deputy Prime Minister Edmonton Journal 09 December 2005

And on a final note Ralph Klein, Premier of Alberta, said that his government will opt out of any plan to ban handguns.

... "A ban. That's fine, you can say ban handguns. That's like saying ban sugar, ban coffee, ban cigarettes, ban anything. You can say 'ban it'. You can pass legislation to ban them. But it's not going to stop the bad guys from getting a hand-gun and shooting someone." Ralph Klein Premier of Alberta Calgary Herald 09 December 2005

... "To me the solution is for the courts to get really, really tough on people who use handguns illegally. That's the solution. It's not to ban them ... I can ban anything. I can ban tape recorders by law. It's not going to stop you from using them." (said in reference to a taped news interview). Ralph Klein Premier of Alberta CBC News 10 December 2005

Alberta is the place to live in Canada. The beef is great to ...

Actually Western Canada is a fantastic place to spend a vacation. And don't call me Shirley ...

Those "do-gooders" think they know it all! Their drivel is so ill-thought-out that I was half expecting one of them to be quoted as saying "Guns are bad; Criminals are ok"

Canadian vacation? Surely you jest!
If I restricted my travel and my vacations to only countries whose politics and policies I completely approved of ... I wouldn't be spending any time in the U.S.
As Autolite says, excellent times to be had in Western Canada. Skiing, hockey, rodeo, fishing, great people ... Not everyone in Canada thinks as they do in Ottowa, Toronto, Montreal ...
