Does anyone sell any bullets for a 7.62x54? I slugged my barrel at .314, so ive been trying to find bullets for it and come up with nothing... Lots of people carry them, just dont have any in stock. Only ones i found were $29/100, but another $20 to ship them. No thanks... Can anyone point me to something cheap for ~100 yard target shooting? Thanks!

That's about what I've seen for .311 bullets, when they can be found. They aren't that common, so pricing will be a little higher.

So make them lee has a decent 155 grain mold and if you get two sizers you can use em for .30 cal too

If you have a .308 sizing stem/button for your die try a few .308 bullets and see how accuracy is. One of my Mosins (hex 1938 receiver) shoots them better than than the .311/.312 bullets I tried. This for jacketed bullets BTW. Lead in my revolvers is just the opposite. I find .308 bullets are lots more plentiful as a rule and especially these days. I also have had good luck with the 124 grain RNFP heavy plated bullets from X-Treme bullet that are made to use in the 7.62X39. You do have to buy 500 at a time however. A call or email to them may get you a sample to try though. I use data for jacketed and keep it between starting and 1/2 way to max for best results in mine but the bullets can be pushed almost to jacketed max with no problems other than poor accuracy.

Good luck on finding an accurate combo.

Not an answer but a question about your premise...wouldn't surplus ammo be available and be the easier route?

Thanks so far for the suggestions. I currently shoot non corrosive (bear ammo I think) at 50¢ a round. Just picked up dies a couple days ago and 40 rounds of brass cased ammo. Thought id try reloading some and possibly have more consistant ammo, but that's turning out to be difficult. I eventually want to purchase equipment to cast my own bullets, but that won't be for quite some time....

Yes. At this point I'm almost considering buying surplus and breaking it down for the bullets. It would actually be cheaper to do that than just buying bullets

If you are willing to use cast (many do) go over to the cast bullets forum. You should be able to find someone to cast some for you.

I love shooting my mosin but they are not the most accurate guns. Not sure how much reloading will help your groupings. If it were me I would reload a more accurate rifle and keep shooting surplus out of my mosin but thats just me. Its a free country.

With surplus ammo I get 3" groups at 100 yards. 1.5" groups with any PRVI/PPU ammo. So reloading should help if you can find a load your rifle likes. They don't say when the bullets will be available but you can back order Sierra bullets directly from their website www.sierrabullets.com

What forum is it? I've heard many people have great success with cast.

Here's one source for 7.62x54R bullets in .310 diameter. 148gr. jacketed lead core probably pulled for $75 per 500.

Thank you

Another vote for cast.
If you don't cast yourself, many companies will make them to a specified size for you.

I (along with many others here) recommend Missouri Bullets for all things cast. I bet Brad would make some to your desired diameter. It will likely cost a few dollars more since it will be a special order thing, but you have to expect that.

If your barrel is slugging at .314 youre going to have some trouble finding suitable fmjs in 54r. I used to shoot the Wolf 148gr. fmj and that measured .310 which was not so great for my .311 bore. You really need to look at custom cast bullets or find another rifle with a bore that fits bullets you can find.
