Hello, y'all. I'm new to the forum, as well as to black powder pistols. I need to find a good capper for my Pietta 1858 Remington New Army. The caps that seem to fit best on this pistol are the Remington #10, but they are too long to fit the straight capper I have; average length of the caps is approximately .180 inch, and the capper is .170 inch deep, so you see there is a definite problem.
I have heard that opening the nipple recess a bit so the Ted Cash "snail" capper will fit is possible, but I neither have the tools needed to do this, nor have the money to pay someone else to do it.
Any suggestions for what a poor guy can do?
