I was at this deal called the Taste of Addison (a festival of foods), and when I was walking around, I noticed a little game where you have a bb gun loaded with 100 shots, and you have to shoot out a red star. Ok- sounds good to me, and since I was with this person I was trying to impress, I paid the overpriced money to play it. It was going good until I ran out of shots and realized that there was a little piece left. Is there a tactic to this game?

Also, there is a game where you shoot at red targets embedded into various objects in a giant scene with cans, owls, a pianist and other things (does anyone know what I am talking about/a better way to describe it).

Lest we not forget, there are the various shooter arcade games, such as House of the Dead or Time Crisis. Getting down to the point now-

So for all you gun machos out there, do you enjoy playing these games to show off your gun skills? Or are these games just too unrealistic for any real application? Also, do you find that video games help you with your skills? One game that comes to mind is a game in which there is a motion detector embedded into the game machine, and you can take cover when people fire at you.

I would like to make this the thread in which the worthiness of virtual reality shooter games are discussed. Is it just a waste of money? Is it good practice? Also, how the heck do you beat that dumb game with the stars? :uhoh: :uhoh: :p

I remember a couple of wears ago, they used to have a sniper video game at a local arcade. It was actually pretty cool, but I would imagine they have put it into storage now...

I find that video games might help your reaction skills but they are far too unrealistic to help with anything else.

I wipe my friends across the floor in Time Crisis. It's not realistic, but the gun having recoil makes it easier to suspend disbelief. The sniper game is cool, somewhat realistic for a game, but I couldn't get far enough to justify spending a dollar a try. I can play Time Crisis for a long long time on one credit.

the star game is almost impossible since they recycle the bbs and half of them have a flat spot in them ., But I did win a prize ( after 20 bucks ) the secret is to shoot in bursts not all at once . and yes it was a macho thing ...:D

When I was a kid, the carnival shooting galleries would have small silk scarves hung up by the top only. If you shot a hole in the scarf you would win a dollar. (Hey, that was 20 large candy bars !) Of course, the scarf simply flew up and the bullet passed beneath it. You had to shoot their ammo, too. I had thought about bring my own with the head of the bullet X'ed or something, but they wouldn't let you.

Yes you can win the Star game.

Don't shoot the star. Shoot all around it and try to punch it out.

And remember, those things are there to make an insane profit. You'll spend 20 bucks to win a 25 cent toy :)

Ahhh the first time I ever played the star game.......

I simply stitched a line from right to left and cut the paper in half above the star.

The rules said no star or part of the star must be showing and I followed them to the letter. I had ammo to spare.

They gave me the big prize but had a new sign up about a hour later.:D

I watched someone play the star shooting game. The bb's don't shoot strait. So it sorta is a game of luck. When I was a kid we would play a shooting game at the fair. You would shoot a cork gun at a pack of cigarettes. If you could knock it off the shelf, you won that pack. The trick was to hit the pack on the top quarter to make it tumble off. Of course this was before the days of political correctness.

The game is sentimental to me.

I've been playing that game since I was a little boy...REALLY little. I remember my dad and I playing it every time we'd go to the fair. Yeah, the BBs have flat spots. Yeah, the guns are horribly inaccurate. Yeah, the sights don't match where it impact is. Yeah, you're not allowed to cut out the star. None of that matters. Dad died in 96 and I haven't stopped playing the game yet, probably never will. Haven't won it yet either. Really could care less.

Can't wait for the fair again so I can play the little BB game.

i impressd the heck out of a GF once by winning a big green poodle in the "star game" at the county fair...then we had to carry it around all night. they didn't have any signs up either.

i wish i'd thought of just cutting the paper in half, the look on their faces would have been worth the hassle, anyway...

it just cost me $.50 too. i quick burst to see how far off the sights were and then "kentucky windage" to encircle the star. the trick to remember is that there needs to be tension on the paper for the bb's to penatrate...you have to shoot further "into" the paper then where you want to "cut".

I've played this game several times. Even one once.

I think the trick is to try to hack out a circle around the star. Oh... and hope you have a lot of luck on your side.

I remember the very first time I ever played that game. I was in about second grade. My mom had to take me away screaming from that place and I talked my grandmother into taking me back when I figured out the way to win... cslinger's method! :p They did give me the prize. I think it was $.25 per $100 and I probably spent $10 there that day.
