Hi folks,
Huge favor to ask. I know I should look this stuff up myself - and I will - but some of you may already know the answer with confidence and certainty.

My wife is traveling by car to St. Louis. She's leaving at 6:00 am. Can she bring a gun? Does a MN permit count for anything in Missouri? I'm sure she has to have it in a locked case going through Iowa.

I've never been to St. Louis, but I've heard bad things. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I'm off to hunt down the laws. I'll check back here soon.

Her permit is valid in Missouri. Here are the vehicle carrying rules for Iowa:

A person who for any lawful purpose carries an unloaded handgun inside a closed and fastened container or securely wrapped package which is too large to be concealed on the person.
A person who carries or transports for lawful purposes an unloaded pistol or revolver in a vehicle inside a closed and fastened container or securely wrapped package which is too large to be concealed on the person or inside a cargo or luggage compartment where the pistol or revolver will not be readily accessible to any person.

She'll be fine following these rules.Don't worry too much.A woman who has the commonsense to protect herself will come through with flying colors.:)

FOPA 1986:

18 USC 926A

Thanks for the quick replies!

We've (hopefully) got all the info we need now. I just couldn't log on to the MO statutes to save my life.

The only one that might affect her is the 5,000 seat venue deal. That's kinda wierd. Oh well. She can case it through IA and watch for posted places in MO.

We were just worried because we have a perception of St. Louis as a not-so-safe place. Heck, she'll probably get there and find it to be wonderful.

ETA: bogie, she's going into St. Louis proper. It's for the Party-Lite National Conference. Is there something she should know?

Where is the conference located? Is it at a convention hotel or at America's Center? Or elsewhere?

Downtown STL isn't too bad, the only question marks would be at night when most places are closed. If she ends up heading down to Lumiere Place (the large casino complex on the riverfront), then she will need to disarm. Ditto if she goes to the Arch (National Park). America's Center depends on whether it is considered a "5000 seat venue," since it is not specially posted.

I believe that the penalties are quite minimal if caught. a Civil infraction if one refuses to leave from a no carry spot.

That being said, there's definitely one place where you'll end up felony charged, and if she takes the Metro bus system.

What Lonnie said: Don't get on a train or bus while carrying

Wanted to reinforce that point.

Does anyone know whether it is legal to carry at the America's Center? I'm going to a conference there in a few weeks.

I suppose one can now carry at the Arch as well, given that it is a national park.
