Any ideas about the legality of carrying in a credit union? The purpose of a credit union as I understand it is that it is not a "bank" and, therefore, it is not subject to some of the regulations affecting banks and can provide different/better services, rates, etc. Carrying in a bank is illegal isn't it? Since a credit union is not a bank, would carrying be legal if the state didn't outlaw it? Obvisiously open carrying wouldn't be a good idea in such a situation.

What about doctor's offices? I understand that, at least in GA, it's illegal to carry in a hospital. Does this apply to doctor's offices or to "medical centers" where several doctors may pratice at the same time? When I fill in for someone at my father's clinic I carry concealed. Since it is his private property and he knows and grudginly accepts it, I figure that I'm safe within the realm of "private property". On the other hand I have to take my grandfather to a specialist who shares his office with four others. There are usually ~25 patients waiting at a time. I do not carry there because I'm not sure of the legality of carrying there.

Any opinions?

Um....it is not illegal to carry in a financial institution as far as federal law goes. It's only the Federal Reserve Banks you got to worry about, you know, the ones that print money?

Why is it that this sort of thing keeps being asked over and over again.

Read your state laws carefully as wording counts. In NC, it isn't "banks" but rather "financial institutions" where you can't carry.

From NC firearm laws:

Even with a permit, you may not carry a concealed handgun in the following areas:
a) Any law enforcement or correctional facility;
b) Any space occupied by state or federal employees;
c) A financial institution;
d) Any premises where the carrying of a concealed handgun is prohibited by the posting of a statement by the controller of the premises;
e) Educational property;
f) Areas of assemblies, parades, funerals, or demonstrations;
g) Places where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed;
h) State occupied property;
I) Any state or federal courthouse;
j) In any area prohibited by federal law;
k) Any local government building if the local government had adopted an
ordinance and posted signs prohibiting the carrying of concealed weapons.
